he is close friends with Maplepatch of Riverclan and is working on convincing her to join him in his clan, or at the very least leave her demanding and controlling mate. 

He cares a great deal about Maplepatch, the two would likely become mates if they were in the same clan... he just wants what is best for her though, even if it means they cannot be together.
