Jaromir Talon is a bastard prince, the illegitimate son of the ruling Salfa Lianna. Jaro was raised far from the sphere of civilised space in a small town that floats above the storms of gaseous world Levniy. Spending his life as cleaner and later a string player for the public house his adoptive mother Iksa boarded at, he spent his youth dreaming of becoming a starsailor.

After a chance encounter with a Kanda chaplain called Osfas, Jaromir one day leaves home to join the knighthood. Though now far from home, he is not one to forget or deny his roots, which puts him in firm opposition with many of the cruel and indifferent knights that have dominated the order's voice in wartime.

In spite of his good-natured and passionate surface, something inside Jaromir grows darker and more dangerous the longer he spends within this stifling and toxic institution.
