Teen Titans OC.

A lab experiment. Her blood was mixed with xenothium resulting in various high-power energy related abilities. Out of the hundreds of experiments, she was the first to live. Her body was in constant pain while the xenothium bonded with her blood cells.
Red X goes looking for xenothium to power his suit, he catches rumors of a lab hidden deep, deep underground that has a large supply. But he's not the only one who has heard these rumors, the police are working to organize a raid of the secret lab, but a mole in the police force has tipped off the lab. The lab quickly works to relocate. Almost all the xenothium has been moved and the new lab is almost up and running. There are a couple of scientists at the old lab taking care of the final preparations to move their surviving experiment and wipe the remaining traces. Enter Red X.
He roughs up the scientists trying to get the location of the xenothium, he finds out it has already been moved, but there are about half a dozen vials left in the old lab. He knocks the scientists out and moves to collect the xenothium from the nearby workstation, that's when he catches a glimpse of her out of the corner of his eye. A top secret lab, a girl locked in a cell, xenothium and the girl's red eyes tell the story for him. He can't leave her behind, even if he hates playing the hero. She's pale as a ghost, she hasn't seen sunlight in god knows how long. He breaks open the cell, "Let's go, Sunshine." he mockingly names her and once they make their escape the nickname sticks. The girl accepts the name having no memories of her previous life or name. Her first memories are of scientists and pain. Burning, agonizing pain. The pain is less now, but still flares up.

Blah blah blah add more here bonding etc

Sunshine falls ill. Her condition continues to deteriorate, X fears the worst. He knows they can't rely on typical medical assistance, he needs to find the lab and the ones that created her. The number of xenothium experts is slim, chances are some of them are playing for both sides. Working in officially sanctioned xenothium labs by "day", working in the underground by "night". He manages to find his target, on his way home, alone. X throws him against a wall and demands answers to his questions. The scientist is shocked that the experiment, as he calls her, is still alive. He goes on to explain that she was the prototype. Their first success. They would learn from her, improve their efforts, but they did not expect her to live for long. X presses for more information. The scientist fumbles out a story of more human experimentation, more failure, more success. There are more with xenothium related abilities. The scientists hazards a guess, Sunshine's illness is related to the decay state of the xenothium. Many of the other experiments reached their decay state already due to overuse of their abilities, Sunshine rarely uses her abilities, thus delaying the decay. Grimly, the scientist explains that none of the experiments have survived after the decay. It's a ticking death clock.

SOMEHOW she survives, they find a way for her to survive the decay state. Now the xenothium coexists within her. There is still pain, but it is rare now. And her illness is in the past. Sunshine is also now able to use her abilities without threat to her life span, but since the xenothium has reached its decay state it is not as potent or powerful as it once was. And the same can be said for her abilities.

They think this is the end of it. But there are still more with xenothium blood and scientists who want answers. How did their prototype survive the decay state, what possibilities does she hold for their research. They aren't done with her, not by a long shot. They send the xenothium warriors out to capture her. They comply, she is the only chance they have to continue living.
