Sunyoung just wants to bring good to the world. He sees enough bad across the board, and believes it's up to everyday people to pick up the slack. He's a fairly grounded person, despite a tendency to retreat into his own head, particularly via daydreams. He loves to connect with people--that is to say, he likes finding people with whom he can have deep, meaningful interaction, though he considers these people extremely rare. Being surrounded by people is a bit overwhelming but also exciting to him. He likes feeling like he's not alone. He prefers honest, open communication, and has a sixth sense regarding the complexities of humanity. Can pick-up and decipher the emotions of others quite easily.

His thought process roams on a fairly high plane of concepts, thriving in the intangible and hypothetical and abstract, while suffering in the realms of the concrete and practical. Has trouble living in the moment. Believes in the autonomy of the human being and thus puts a great emphasis on personal accountability and mental objectivity. He can be selfless to a fault, sacrificing his own happiness or comfortability for that of others', sometimes even out of desperation for friendship or inclusion. Despite this, he's a very quiet, calm soul. He sometimes comes across as aloof or even cold, depending on the circumstances. This is a defense mechanism. People scare him. They're a constant physical and emotional threat. Despite this subconscious wariness, it's very easy to manipulate him into suspending his distrust if he's attached to someone. He sees those he knows (or thinks he knows) through rose-tinted glasses and the thought that they might not be healthy for him doesn't cross his mind. or, if it does, he can ignore it in favor of a twisted sense of loyalty.

Thanks to this simmering suspicion of others, however, he tends to be very private and distant in social situations. He wishes for authentic interpersonal connections, but doesn't know how to go about initiating them; negative past experience has made him wary of trying for fear of failure. Being surrounded by people, even if engaged in small talk and surface interaction, compounds the combination of his natural traits and creates a deep-rooted sense of loneliness that he isn't sure how to fix. This is only further aggravated by perfectionism and depression. Ultimately, he is torn between seeing other people as the cause of his distress (hence the fear) or seeing it as a terminal failure in himself (hence the perfectionism).

B I O G R A P H Y

He was born to Yoonsung and Kanna Yu (quirks: Quirkless and Sleeper Breath respectively), 7 weeks early--his fingerprints hadn't even developed yet. His father was a nurse, rigidly conservative, and an alcoholic. His mother had gone to school to become a Hero, but then married in college and became a stay-at-home mother once Sunyoung was born.

When he was 4, his mother's father died, leaving her mother alone to manage the family ramen shop. After many late nights with young Sunny kept awake by his parents' arguments, they moved to Japan to help take care of grandma. On the flight there, Kanna was humming to get Sunny to sleep, and the child started singing along to the words he knew. His parents, and even the two passengers in the seats ahead of theirs, found themselves feeling suddenly and inexplicably drowsy. But it wasn't until a year later, when Kanna was pregnant with her second child and Sunny took it upon himself to sing his unborn sibling a lullaby, that Sunny's Quirk was fully realized. His lullaby put his mother to sleep for a full half hour.

Then, Yoonsung's parents back in South Korea both died as collateral damage in a hero-villain skirmish, around the same time Sunyoung's younger sister Fumiko was born. Over the next 5 years, Yoonsung spiraled further into depression and anxiety. The alcoholism increased consequentially. 3 years in, Yoonsung and Kanna went through with a divorce. Kanna got custody of the children, with regularly scheduled visitation rights bestowed to Yoonsung. Sunyoung went gladly because he loved his father, but the results of the visitations were a growing fear of both of his parents.

At the end of the 5th year, Yoonsung committed suicide via overdose on his prescription medication. Sunyoung, 10 at the time, was the one who found him and called 119.

In the following year, Sunyoung decided he wanted to rescue people. His mother, now working as an assistant chef at the family ramen shop, pounced on his dream and told him all about her alma mater, U.A.

◇ Lullaby

Description: His singing voice can lull a target into a pleasant, dreamless sleep. It does not work through water, walls, or other obstructions; the target must be able to hear him clearly. The closer he is to the target, the quicker the sleep effect. Can effect anyone within clear hearing range. The Quirk comes with a sense of perfect pitch.

As a sound-based quirk, it's very versatile. Short-to-long-range. He has marginal self-defense skills, but can't hope to compete against combat Quirks, so he focuses on keeping his distance and using his Quirk to lull his opponent into slumber.

Drawbacks: Non-combative. He has to keep his voice and musical talent in good shape for higher rates of success. Attacks can be interrupted or drowned out with other sounds. He cannot turn the ability off, which means he can't sing without the risk of putting people to sleep. Overuse can leave him hoarse and sore for a week.

In addition, his emotional and empathetic personality can make him unstable under the right circumstances, weakening his control and focus. A shaky voice leads to shaky effects. He also reacts poorly to failure as a perfectionist. He has high standards for himself as both a Hero and a human being. Tends to second-guess himself and his judgment.
