Ikenna Yamasaki is the golden boy of Kiyose High, he is easygoing, kind and effortlessly popular. With his easy smile and friendly nature, he’s the kind of guy everyone feels comfortable around. He’s especially popular among the girls, who frequently confess their feelings to him - sometimes in private, sometimes with an audience. But Ikenna always turns them down. He’s learned to spot the pattern: most of them are more interested in the idea of dating someone popular than actually getting to know him. Even when surrounded by people, Ikenna often feels like no one truly sees the version of him that exists beneath the surface. He’s friendly to everyone, smooth in conversation, and always seems to know just what to say. But behind the polished image is someone far more complicated... someone who rarely lets his true feelings show.
Born in Hawaii to a Japanese mother and a Black father, Ikenna spent his early years surrounded by sun, family, and warmth. But everything changed when his parents separated. He moved to Japan with his mother in third grade, where things quickly turned cold. His mother, still bitter from the divorce, emotionally distanced herself from him. Though she raised him, she never really wanted to. Ikenna grew up neglected and ostracized, learning early how to suppress his needs and emotions so he wouldn’t be a burden.
As a result, Ikenna is someone who craves closeness but fears what might happen if anyone gets too close. He hides his anxiety and emotional exhaustion behind a calm, likable facade, always the one people turn to - but rarely the one they truly ask about.

Yagi saw through Ikenna’s polished exterior and wasn’t afraid to call him out for it. At first, Ikenna resented him, but after the tension broke, he realized how much they actually had in common.
