Backstory

Born as Asher Ellis, Noa’s family was a long line of traders specializing in gemstones. As a child, Noa often spent his time in his father’s jewelry shop, helping him out with customers. From this, he grew a love for gemstones and wanted to inherit the shop in the future.

During school and the like, his male classmates often called him girly for his love for gemstones while his female classmates were quite close to him. Because of this, he doesn’t have any male friends and has trouble speaking with them.

During his first year in middle school, his parents traveled overseas for work. He didn’t think much of it, since he knew that they would be back soon. But near the end of that year, he is visited by Markus and his coworker Eric. Surprised, Noa asks what they were here for and Eric clears his throat before answering, “I’m an officer for the government, my name is Eric. Are you Asher Ellis?”

“Yes…” he answers nervously.

“I’m sorry to tell you this but…” Eric hesitates to tell Noa about his parents’ death overseas.

"You know what, can we come inside? We need to talk to you about your parents."

The three of them sit down in the living room and Eric takes a deep breath before saying anything. "Your parents, they...They passed away."

"What...?" Noa begins to shake, his voice wavering as he added, "Ho-how...? How did they..."

"They...were murdered. The deal they were making with a group caused it," Eric tells the boy, "We're investigating the matter right now and wanted to tell you so you could contact your relatives to take care of you."

"Contact..." Noa nods, pulling out his phone to search for his relatives' numbers. Eric takes the time to look over to Markus, asking, "Watch over him for me, I need to make a call myself." Markus nods, waving to his coworker as he left the room.

Noa begins to scroll through his contacts, his hands shaking as he does so. His vision was blurring but he tried hard to keep back the tears. He goes through each and every one of his relatives, telling them about what happened. Each called ended the same way: "We can't take you in." He wanted to ask why, but he felt like he already knew the reason. What if they come after us if we take you in? Considering how the killers could track him down to finish whatever deal his parents tried to make with them... He looks over to Markus, tears finally flowing down from his eyes, and tells him, "No one is...willing to take me in. So...I guess I'll be sent to a foster home..."

Markus gently wipes the boy's tears and reassures him, "Well, if no one will take you in, I will."

"Huh...? You'd just take me in...just like that?" Noa couldn't help but laugh. Just a government officer, willing to take him in with no hesitation. He agrees, finding Markus amusing.

After getting taken in by Markus, Noa finds out that Eric was a bit unwilling with the man's decision. Something along the lines of 'you just took on all of this work and you decide to take in a kid? I can't believe you, you absolute moron.' But the irritation was understandable, Markus pushed off some of that work to someone else(aka Eric himself), just to take care of him. Noa eventually changed his name to 'Noa Reed' to give himself a sense of ease, though he tries to get people to still call him 'Asher' if possible.

Nearing the time for him to enroll into high school, Noa decides to go overseas so he wouldn't be a burden to Markus. I wouldn't get in the way of work this way. That's what Noa told himself to be the reason why. He randomly picks BIH which Markus just repeatedly asks if the boy was sure.

"Yes, I'm not changing my mind."

Urgh, if I can't convince you otherwise then... You have to pass the exam and learn Japanese in a short amount of time. Deal?"

"Deal. I won't cause you any trouble."

After passing the exams, the two of them go to the airport. Markus sighs as the time for boarding came closer, looking over to Noa with a sad smile. "You know Ash, I wish you could've stayed here a little bit longer."

"No, I'm not making you take less work! Give Eric a break please."

"...Ash, really? You had to mention Eric?" Markus says, visibly hurt from the boy's words.

"Of course, he's been done with your shit."

"Ash, please..." Markus sighs as he realizes it's almost time. "But it's time to go. Ash, once you get there, say hi to my daughter will you?"

"Yeah. See you Markus. I'll be back before you know it."

Noa attends Birmingham City University in England to study jewelry design.
