About

Draconians are a reptillian humanoid species of monster, up to 7 feet in size with tails, claws and horns. They are born scaleless, and throughout adolescence, their scales are a dull brown. When approaching adulthood, their scales take on a specific colour. Which colour their scales have determines a lot about their physiology, such as their aptitudes and what breath weapon they have. Red draconians breathe fire and are good at destructive magic, while green draconians breathe poison and have an affinity for stealth, and so on. Draconians have wings, but for most colours, these are too small to fly with.

Kaspella is a purple draconian. Their bodies are innately resistant to magic, and they can breathe clouds of dispelling energy that can unravel magic effects. However, as a result, they are also virtually incapable of using magic for themselves. Like almost all draconians, their cold-bloodedness leaves them with a vulnerability to ice magic.

Artificers are skilled craftsmen. While they can make various magical trinkets and baubles, they are primarily known for creating magical devices called wands. Wands can cause a number of magical effects, oftentimes offensive in nature. However, a skilled artificer can create wands that can do a variety of things, possibly including healing or buffing allies. Wands are created with a number of charges, and become useless once depleted. Artificers have been struggling for centuries to find a way to recharge wands, but as of yet, without success. Anyone can use the wands made by an Artificer, but Artificers have the skills to do so more efficiently.

As a purple Draconian, Kaspella is blessed with an innate resistance to magic. While far from immune, she is able to shrug off enchantments more easily and takes less damage from offensive spells. Furthermore, Kaspella can breathe a bolt of dispelling energy, which does moderate damage and unravels the magical effects of those it comes into contact with. Kaspella also has claws, teeth, horns and a tail which can be used in a pinch, but she prefers to avoid melee combat unless it's an absolute necessity.

Kaspella's preferred method of combat instead relies on the wands she creates. There are two offensive wands she almost always carries. The wand of flame is a very cheap and basic wand, considered the "Ol' Reliable" among Artificers. When mentally activated, it fires a puff of flame. This wand has decent range but somewhat limited firepower. It's strong enough to hurt, but not enough to ignite anything but the most flammable materials. Her other preferred wand is the wand of scattershot. This wand is larger and heavier, and is used for short-range combat. When activated, it fires a burst of metal splinters with great force. Against unarmored targets at close range, the damage can be devastating, but when used improperly, it's easy to harm yourself with it, hence why this is a wand type Kaspella rarely gives out to non-Artificers.

As an Artificer, Kaspella can make many kinds of wands. The process is complicated and requires specialized materials as well as a sizable time investment. While it's not cheap, wands are considered desirable by adventurers and soldiers, so they can be sold at a profit, something which Kaspella is well aware of.

Kaspella may choose to bring and make different wands if the operation calls for it, which will be described as needed.

While the wand is Kaspella's one true love, she is also decently skilled at making pebblementals, small stones with elemental energy trapped inside, that are unleashed when breaking the stone against a hard surface. Air pebblementals will cause a loud bang, earth pebblementals will burst into a shrapnel of rock, fire pebblementals will create a cover of smoke, and water pebblementals just make things annoyingly slippery.

Kaspella grew up in a moderately large Monster city. While her community had a large amount of Draconians, she mingled plenty with other races. As a child, Kaspella befriended a pixie, and the two became interested in magic, spending many an evening reading all they could about it. Kaspella would spend a lot of her youth dreaming about if she would become a mighty red-scaled conjurer, an airborne black-scaled transmuter, or maybe her scales would turn white and she would be able to master that dangerous ice magic? Alas, Kaspella scales turned purple, and with that, her dreams of becoming a mage came to a tragic end.

Feeling like she had no lot in life, Kaspella underwent some years of soul-searching, which mostly involved self-destructive behaviour through copious alcohol usage. She grew resentful of her pixie friend, who had devoted herself to the path of a Wizard, something Kaspella could never follow up. The two were no longer on speaking terms. After some troubling years, things seemed to take a turn for the better when she had a fateful encounter with an Artificer in a bar. Kaspella saw how succesful the man was, despite having no magical ability of his own! He was respected, and he was wealthy. These petty aspirations were enough to pull Kaspella out of her drunken haze, and apply herself to becoming an Artificer.

Kaspella spent some time building up a reputation, mostly selling wands to armies of the Monster Queen who sought to claim the claim the Meridia. While this was profitable, Kaspella saw a risk. If either army would conquer the Meridia, the font of magic it would grant to the conqueror would definitely quickly push her wands into obsolescence. If the conflict were to be solved so resolutely, there might not be a need for wands of war anymore...

Worried about losing her calling after having invested so much into finding it, Kaspella came up with a strange solution: join the SSS. On paper, they wished for peace, an obstacle to Kaspella's business plans. But in practice, they were able to communicate with both sides, always seeking out areas of conflict, and no doubt had plenty of needs for tools of combat for their own agents. Kaspella is no starry-eyed idealist like many of her colleagues are in her eyes, but as long as her services are needed, she will be there.

It's been about 6 years since she joined the SSS. Initially as just a foot soldier, but before too long she was given a position in the armory, as a quartermaster, which was was pleased to accept. While of course, she's very knowledgeable about magic items, she's also learned a lot about weapons, armor, potions and other more traditional supplies, and is confident enough to pick gear for people to use. Since she's in the armory quite a bit, any SSS member who's been on active field duty for longer than a few months has probably interacted with her in the past.

When not assigned to the armory, she still goes on missions, which she diligently accepts. She's never put their objective at risk, but she's always looking for business opportunities during their missions. She often brings along extra wands (from her own supply) so that she may strike a bargain with any humans or monsters that are interested in her wares.

Kaspella comes off as standoffish, and rarely gets attached to people. She secretly has a strong need of validation, which often comes across as greed to other people.
