Background

Valka is the first child of King Odin and only child of Queen Amalthea of Arün. His mother died during his birth, being there were complications, his father was told to choose between the love of his life and his heir. Odin never gave anyone a reason for choosing Valka over Amalthea. With Odin grieving the loss of his wife, he tried hard to take care of his child. Odin eventually turned back to women in Valka's early age for comfort. His father eventually shacked up with a human woman. The relationship between King Odin and the human Rachel produced Valka's younger, half brother, Cedric. Rachel was executed when the kingdom found out about Odin's affair. Cedric, unfornately, was outcast by everybody and abused by Odin when growing up. Valka as a child saw his brother as an equal, still. He did not understand his brother's circumstances and often chose to ignore it. Though Valka would regularly check up on his brother. Valka only had meals with Odin, Odin never invited Cedric to events where the royal family was to be present.

As Valka got older, Odin would purposefully keep him busy with studies to keep him away from his brother, yet he enjoyed being the center of attention. Valka was not  someone who would beg for attention if it was not on him. Only after did Odin become very sick half a century into the boys' adulthood that Valka was able to talk to his younger brother more. Valka was able to abandon his royal duties to apologize on Odin's behalf to Cedric. Valka spent lots of time showing Cedric new things he'd learned among other interesting and entertaining stuff. They would visit their father while he stayed sick for thirty years. When their father felt better, he threw Cedric in prison for interacting and supposedly tarnishing the heir to the throne. For many years Valka pleaded with Odin to stop. Odin eventually exiled Cedric and Valka's world shattered. His younger brother was sent away in a boat, to never be seen again.

With his father no longer having someone to receive all of his negativity, Odin turned on Valka to relinquish his anger. Odin became bipolar towards his own son, often yelling that Valka wasn't good enough, that his mother would've put a stop to how much of a failure he was and other times trying to console him and buy his love with false apologies and gifts. Valka avoided him at all costs, upset and finally understanding what his brother had gone through. Until one day that Odin made a crude comment, comparing Valka to Cedric and Valka shoved his sword right through his father's heart. Realizing the gravity of what he'd just done, Valka quickly scurried to make it look like an accident. As killing an Arünian king was an act of high treason and was punishable by death without trial no matter who had done it. With his flawless cover up, he graciously accepted the crown ten days later. As he took the crown, he vowed to turn towards more pacifist ways. He did not want a repeat of his father's death. His father's death also turned Valka into a severe alcoholic.

After 50 years of being king, his brother had returned home, only to find out that Cedric had changed his name to Sellion Dunes and was expecting a cold welcome. Valka was overjoyed to see him and lifted his banishment. Valka bugged him to stay, which his brother eventually said yes to but would not be accepting of the title of a prince anymore. Instead, Valka offered him a job, as the Captain of the Guard and a seat in the High Council. His brother accepted.

Valka very soon found himself falling in love with a princess of one of Arün's alliances, Princess Moria of Iridonia, a kingdom from across the sea. They had known each other for a long time. Time passed as the royal family of Iridonia came to Arün and he proposed to Moria. Moria accepted. Moria had decided she wanted a child. Valka only agreed because he needed an heir, and finding that Odin had written a rule that only full-blooded elves could take the throne of Arün, permanently writing Sellion out of the equation. They tried but their efforts seemed futile as Moria wouldn't get pregnant. In due time, Moria did have a child, their first born son who they named Laverne. Laverne had become new crown Prince of Arün. Valka's newborn son had opened a gateway to a part of Valka's heart that he didn't know he had. Valka and Moria watched the son they loved so dearly grow up to become a great man and a dearly beloved prince of the kingdom of Arün.

When their son Laverne was reaching half maturity, Moria found herself pregnant again. Moria gave birth to another boy, naming him Jericho. They grew up and both became astounding young men. Many more years of happiness passed, and Moria set off to visit her family in Iridonia. Valka caught himself in a drunken stupor, having intimacy with a clear stranger, which he didn't realize until a while later when the woman came back to him and gave birth to his daughter. She named the child Khaleesi and left the girl with him. Moria found out this had been what he'd been hiding from her. Valka refused to abandon his daughter like his father had done with his brother. This caused much tension in the family until Laverne had a nervous breakdown.
