Larkin is a very bright and upcoming scientist and doctor. It was Sir Attaly who took him under his arm, a well-known and well-respected man who was known for his advances in science. Being 17 when the chance came, he did not know what to expect when it was revealed that Sir. Attaly simply used the work of other scientists as if it were his own as if he were Larkin. Someone who worked alongside Sir. Attaly and was trying to learn from him.

He is often seen as intelligent, friendly, and accepting of others. He has a huge love of fudge, theories, supernatural theories, and classical music - he seems to have a lot of knowledge in these areas - more than a standard person would know. This can be accompanied by the fact that his home is filled with a lot of the things he loves. Fletcher would be surprised by this once he gets to explore the house a lot more - and learns a lot more about Larkin.

Larkin has been taken advantage of by Sir. Attaly. Almost all of Larkin's work has been stolen and put under the control of Sir Attaly for quite some time now. This has been his life for the last 4 years. Keeping a poker face about the truth of Sir. Attaly after looking up the other scientists who were before him and how all their careers were ruined. This is the only life that he knew, and it was far better than before. It was not a life he wanted to throw away to not be able to do what he loved. So he continued to work under the man for the last 4 years.

He's slowly gotten to the point with some convincing from his friend Lloyd, that he's starting to want some change. He has fought for himself against Sir. Attaly. Recently, Attaly has been annoyed by this retaliation since this is not how Larkin usually behaves. Sir. Attaly blames it on Lloyd being a toxic influence and continues to take advantage of Larkin by blackmailing him, not only Larkin but Lloyd as well. With his friend's job at risk, Larkin doesn't pull the trigger on leaving him.

Larkin feels that this is just how his life will continue to be until Sir. Attaly dies - with no alternative in sight. He wouldn't want to hurt a friend for his own purposes. So now he just waits, maybe for a miracle to happen. And maybe a miracle happened when a certain man showed up.

Fletcher showed up in Larkin's life after a successful presentation at the Science Association. Larkin was out for drinks before being paid for his work by Sir. Attaly. Larkin did not know that there was someone stalking him, and Attaly, on the way home.

After being nearly killed at home, Fletcher turns up and introduces himself, and explains about keeping an eye. It is also then that Larkin realizes that this is the famous Golden Thief, who disappeared 2 years ago. The golden magic Fletcher supposedly had to save him was an obvious indication to Larkin that he was the Golden Thief. It's then that he becomes insanely curious about Fletcher and his magic. Fletcher seems a bit taken aback by this interest.

However, Larkin will insist that he will get to the bottom of finding out how his magic works if Fletcher would allow him to. Fletcher seems hesitant, knowing that humans shouldn't be exposed to this at all - but the charming nature of Larkin's curiosity and willingness to help convince him.

For Fletcher, Larkin is intriguing because he is a human with a keen interest in supernatural stories and theories. However, Larkin works in a field that disapproves of the idea that magic is the only way to heal or change something. Furthermore, it is one of the first times that someone is trying to help him out, without being scared of what he's gotten into or wanting to take advantage of him. Larkin shows genuine care in the way that he acts. They have very similar goals in mind, and they bounce off each other well - so it's no wonder why they would eventually become a detective duo together.
