The candles represents his life, this creature has 3 lives. When he 'dies' one of the candles will flicker out, yet, as long as there is 1 candle, he will become undead. He can live until all of the flames die out, so he is practically immortal. Frostlight has never died before.
His horned mask is what keeps his spirit alive, and he cannot take it off. If he were to do that, both his body and his spirit would instantly die.
