Character

As he spends most of his time travelling alone, he is normally a quiet man, preferring to watch and listen than make loud boasts or draw attention to himself. The last part becomes a little harder when he stands at just a hair over seven feet, but he tries his best to not intimidate others unless it is necessary.

Like all Winter Knights, he has taken a vow to never let another see him without helm and armor outside of the safety of the Order's fortress, so the most anyone can tell of him comes from his deep, placid voice. Makepeace rarely gets loud in anger or shock, but when frustrated his voice will instead grow more firm and lecturing.

History

Makepeace joined the Order at a very young age, lured by the promise of food, shelter and an apprenticeship that could lead to him being a respected member of a wealthy and noble organization. He passed successfully the first year of training and became a Summer Knight, then an Autumn Knight after the first five years of knighthood. He enjoyed hunting with a companion or two if asked, but Makepeace found challenge in the Winter Knights much like the rest of the younger section of knights who saw them from afar with a mixture of envy and awe. He sought to emulate their greatest achievements: fighting dragons one on one as master hunters. He spent winters training with other Autumn Knights who shared his ambitions, though in truth none of them knew on just how to join the elite ranks of the secretive Winter Knights. Still he persisted, learning the secrets of his prey, their weaknesses, and delving into more than just the customary singular kill that the Order required from their knights. He thought nothing of the many scars he received from fang and claw, until one day Makepeace began to notice changes within himself he could not explain. Seeking help from the Order's physicians, it was then that he learned the true secret behind the mysterious Winter Knights...

Now a fully fledged master hunter himself, Makepeace - or Peace to his friends - has devoted himself to a life of slaying dragons, wyverns and drakes; he has little need for treasures aside from his own little keepsakes and what he uses to keep himself well supplied and fed while on his hunts. The rest is given to whatever neighboring village his prey has settled by, in the hopes that it will serve them better than himself. The years crawl by and while he has little notion of whether it is the changes in his own body that has kept him alive longer than the average man, he knows that eventually his fates lies in the snowy mountains of the North, where all Winter Knights must eventually retire to or die before the fury of their prey. Still it is not a notion that scares him, it is in fact a welcome thought to know that there will be mercy in spite of whatever is he is becoming.

Such he might have remained, content to weather the coming years with quiet dignity, had he not stumbled upon a certain dragon's cave one night and discovered its most secret, hidden treasure....

Notes

• Makepeace is very conscious of the fact that he is taller than most everyone aside from his fellow Winter Knights, and makes a point to kneel or sit to make those around him comfortable.
• While there are several of his brethren that chose to embellish their armors, Makepeace has left it mostly untouched, preferring instead the simplicity of the scale and its ease of keeping clean.
• His blade is named Cleaver, and it was a gift to him from a previous hunting partner who has since left North.
• The changes Makepeace has gone through allow him to see clearly on moonless nights.
• Makepeace's favorite season is autumn, as he enjoys the changing leaves and cool nights.
• Makepeace will not and should NEVER be depicted outside of his armor or helm, or in some outfit that does not cover all of his skin.

Celeste [ Chosen Ward ]

A secret treasure he found hidden in the lair of a great and powerful dragon. Since rescuing the blind star god, he has chosen to remain by their side for the remained of a year and ensure they remain safe, as they are very clumsy and know little of the world around them after being kept a dragon's prisoner for the last ten years. Determined to do right by this god, Makepeace has sworn that no harm will come his ward so long as he is still breathing.
