The deposed wyrm. 

Spoilt and haughty, his bite is only worse than his bark when he has people to back that up. 

He's petty and furious - from youth, he knew about people finding him something to, as he perceived it, make a mockery out of royalty.

Oh, you think his face looks funny? Well, he's about to be hilarious. In his reign, his dungeons were fit to bursting with people arrested over the smallest of slights. He pushed the people around him into becoming bigger jokes than he was. (Hence, "I" being treated more of a court jester than a court mage.)

As far as he's concerned, it's not fair that a rightful king like he has been replaced by what currently sits on his throne - but the people around him care far less. He will find no help here.

He knows it's only from the usurper's contempt that he wasn't killed. He knows that they think he is far too weak and hated to truly be a threat to them in any way, an immortal being even the strongest haven't been able to stop.

He knows that they're right, and he hates them all the more for it.

• golden eyeliner is royal ceremonial makeup for official occasions, including making a portrait of him. he was painted perfect, elegant and regal and beautiful in a way he isn't in truth because he's an ugly bastard at heart and you won't see him looking like that irl anyway
• though he arrests a lot of people, in his mind this is "okay" because they're fed and watered and it's not like he's executing them, they'll be fine and released eventually. so many of them are poor, this is probably doing them a favour really. not that he cares because              he arrested them for something like calling him funny

some immortal type being, some evil fucked up lich type, that entrusted their soul jar/the thing that keeps them alive/their soul into like an old friend of theirs, like they have shared souls or some bullshit and its like. a plot thing in the story where the old friend is NOT fucked up and evil and in fact actually has morals and is very unhappy with what their friend has chosen to become and its like. having to convince them to give up that soul........ and help kill their old friend. take at least some step to make up for their inaction

this fucked up lich is also currently the king, usurper to the crown and taking over by force and like. there isnt much anyone can do about that because [insert cannot be killed flag and also a lot of power]. someone who stole the power from the original king, and the original king was shitty. so is the usurper, but in different ways and honestly most of the citizens are apathetic to the change of hands in the throne room because of it. [average peasant voice] we traded one shitty king for another shitty king who cares. its whatever

the new king might even be better in a lotta ways for the people tbh even if theyre still a shitty person, because they dont care to be horrible in the exact way the original king was

mostly the people who care about the takeover are the still alive deposed king whos whining about it, and political stuff mostly - cause the new king wont play with the nobles the way the old king did cause the new king is just like. nah (blasts you with a forearm laser)
