I have so many AU's of this kid but I'll only list one of them for now 

Medieval + Magic

Occupation: Knight
Immediate Family: Father (nobleman, king's close friend), Isabelle "Belle" (half sister), Grandfather (powerful mage), Mother (deceased, powerful sorcerer), uncle (powerful sorcerer)
Family background: His mother's family is descended from very powerful mages, its basically in their blood to be born with strong magical ability and has been that way for centuries. His father is from a noble family that's been pretty close to the royal family for centuries.
Magic ban: Magic is banned in the kingdom because two of the king's wives were killed by it. The first wife (turns out to be Chaz's mother, explained later) was murdered by a sorcerer. She managed to protect Chaz best she could, the magic that broke through her barrier caused the pigment in his skin where it touched to lessen (blue eye + vitiligo). The king's second wife died in childbirth from having her child magically altered to be a son so there would be an heir to the throne. The king blames magic for killing those he loves, so he banned it and anybody found using it is put to death.
Grandfather: He is a very well known, very powerful sorcerer. At this point in the story he's more of a legend and not spoken of because of the ban on magic and the fact he hasn't been seen in many years. The king, out of respect, let him live the rest of his life in peace deep in the forest near the kingdom's western border. He served the kingdom for many years and was both a trusted advisor and an amazing physician at one point.
Uncle: Because of some intense family problems, he ends up killing his sister (the king's first wife) and causing a hatred in magic. He then disappears from the kingdom for a long time, only to return with a cult he created to tear down the kingdom years after the king declared the magic ban.
Void stone: What Chaz wears around his neck. These stones are uncommon, but used to absorb magic. Not many know what they are unless they've studied magic.
Mages vs Sorcerers: In this universe, sorcerers are those born with magical ability and mages are those who learn how to harness and practice magic. Both do involve the need to learn how to use magic but sorcerers are born with magic 'running in their veins' and can't escape their magical destiny. If they don't use magic it gets trapped and 'builds up' in their bodies and tears them apart from the inside out. This can be avoided with a void stone, it'll absorb the excess magic produced.

  Current king of the kingdom, remarried after Elyssiana died, didn't remarry after his second wife died

  Very close friend and most trusted advisor of the King (since childhood). Agreed to take in Chaz when asked. His wife died a year after giving birth to Belle from sickness.

  Belle is the daughter of Chaz's adoptive father. She is killed by a mage

First son 

Chaz doesn't know for a very long time in his life that he's the king's first son and it was never meant for him to find out. They changed his identity after his mother was killed and had his grandfather bury those memories deep in his mind (he was 5 years old at the time). As far as the citizens knew, Chaz was killed along with his mother in the attack and the king's closest friend had 2 children, one being named after the king's son. The king claims he did this to protect his son in case his uncle wanted to come back and finish him off, but it was also because after banning magic he couldn't really be seen with a son from a powerful sorcerer family. Magic was very illegal and if Chaz remembered he had magic he would probably use it and get caught, then the king would be faced with the difficult decision of upholding his law and killing his son or removing it and sparing him. 

Chaz always wears the void stone necklace because as far as he remembers, its the only thing he has from his mother. Later, the current physician (who at one point was a mage before the ban) revealed it was a void stone and told him what it did. As far as Chaz knew, it just protected him from any magical attacks. This made it less likely he would ever take it off.
