Aphros and Bythos are quite the enigmatic pair of siblings, deemed as such due to their unique appearances. At first glance, many are quick to assume that they are your standard merfolk, but a closer look would say otherwise. Their ears are more like fins, their skin radiating unnatural colours not usually seen in merpeople.

This is because Aphros and Bythos are not merpeople, but instead merkoorik; hybrids of merfolk and koorik spliced artificially for the best traits, the traits most attractive to potential buyers. But blinded by greed, it was for certain the syndicate achieved their goals with inhumane means. The countless female koorik that died in childbirth due to complications stemming from oversized newborns, including the siblings’ mother, not to mention the many needles of growth hormones injected into their veins, just so they could be sold earlier... there was no doubt it scars them to this very day.

Nevertheless, Aphros tries to look past the pain and suffering she had endured, always remaining optimistic in whatever she does, believing that no situation will ever amount to their days with the syndicate. It is this positivity and innocence that allows her to open up much more quickly to strangers, much to the dismay of her less trusting brother.
