Backstory

Levi's first memories are of the open ocean, of water stretching out for miles and miles and not a life in sight. It seemed almost as if they were placed there to be in isolation, with only the water to trust. They tried to find something, but it seemed that all they came up with was silence, and a neverending hunger. In their early years, Levi hunted what they could, always hungry and wanting more. They quickly grew out of the diet of whatever fish they could find, and needed more. At the ripe age of 9, they hunted their first shark. The adrenaline that the hunt gave them filled them with a sense of power, one that they would chase for the rest of their life. They weren't done fighting yet, however, as a rogue fisher wanted to take their prey for themselves. Levi, still young and uncivilized, and riding off the high of their victory, disputed the steal and ended up killing the fisher with their bare hands. Their hunger, unfulfilled by their original prey, made them look to the body of the fisher they had just killed. They had two meals that night.

For Levi, the hunt had begun. They quickly expanded their territory, claiming swaths of ocean and killing anyone they came across. This pattern continued into their late 20s, when they decided that they wanted to take some territory for themselves in the world above. They had never been to the world beyond the ocean, though they knew it existed because they had lost many a chase to the earth. Stepping out of the water for the first time, they felt scared, out of their depth. They hated it. But on this strip of beach, a lonely crafter sat, uninterested. Levi, immediately assessing the StarDragon as prey, lunged at the crafter but found that they couldn't move nearly as lithely as they could in water. They had no expereience. Their display and confusion only led to laughter from the Crafter, who got too close and earned a snapping from Levi. One fight on ground later, and Levi had lost a fight for the first time. They were bewildered. How did this land dweller manage to defeat them?

Levi, upset but still respectful of the Warrior's code, stopped trying to murder the Crafter. The other StarDragon offered to teach Levi language and writing, and Levi didn't refuse the offer. Over the next year, Levi learned how to speak and became somewhat civilized, even getting his headgems carved by the crafter in a way that would look more 'menacing'. It was going so well, until one day, Levi emerged from the water and the Crafter wasn't there. Nor were they there the next day, or for months after. Eventually, Levi stopped bothering to check, feeling betrayed by their one and only friend. They closed themselves off and became more aggressive, returning to their territorial and combative ways. It was at this point that the legends began forming, rumors of a deep-sea terror that would kill you if you so much as came near. Some called Levi 'Lenus' Curse', saying that the goddess had put the monster into the ocean as a punishment that would kill anyone who had done something to wrong her. Others said that the creature was a fallen king that had finally decided to rise again, and was staking claim to his former kingdom.

Whatever the case was, Levi didn't care. They had a goal in mind, and they would do anything to get it. They needed to be the strongest, and never lose again. They would never lose again. They couldn't. Their hunger forbade it.
