Desmond

Desmond has no recollection of who or what he was before being ‘born’ into the current form he takes.

Desmond was just a low-level incubus that had a hobby of collecting valuable information to keep his insatiable cravings preoccupied. Eventually turning this hobby into a business, his craft grew him the title to something of an info broker. Desmond is apathetic and standoffish to those he has deemed unworthy of his recognition (which is most). To those he does reluctantly interact with, he still stands himself with an overbearing, authoritative aura. Even while being part of the lowest ranking demons in terms of raw power from Heldom, through his rare birth, he is free from the ranking and regulations placed on other demons. This freedom fuels his pretentiousness, leading him to not value the lives of others to the point of calling most others, especially humans, ‘ants’. Being an incubus, he deeply despises the concept of needing to rely on ‘ants’ to sustain himself, and makes interactions short and quick.

Through a series of maliciously planned events from Desmond, the wildcard mercenary named Xian is forced to agree to a contract with him. Unbeknownst to both of them at the time, the strange aura Xian exhibited and initially attracted Desmond’s attention was that of the fabled dragon race that had vanished hundreds of years ago. Thanks to the soul binding contract, Demond has slowly began being corrupted by the draconic power that is dormant in Xian.

While being only from the lower levels of Heldom, Desmond’s existence is an anomaly. Most devils are ‘born’ from an intense desire (envy, hatred, etc.) and dissipate as quickly as they had come. Devils are generally born without a conscience and are unable to speak - purely driven by their innate instincts and drive. These creatures are usually what one would associate with the mindless hoards of demons that rampage villages unprompted.

But for some reason Desmond has been able to survive hundreds of years and retain consciousness. His existence is something that wavers the Purebloods' power and the social structure they have mandated and maintained for thousands of years. The Purebloods have reservations about allowing him to continue to live, but due to his ability to gather information and general indifference towards gaining physical power, they have found themselves able to ignore the blatant threat. They continue to use his abilities to the fullest and hire Desmond for his information collecting services regularly.
