Lusca

Remnant, Element: Riptide

He represents currents, water-danger, speed, and movement.

Lusca is curious, confident, and impulsive. He can be quick to act, but he does not speak needlessly. Those he cares about, he cares for deeply. He is most often calm and quiet, but when angered, he is a force to be reckoned with, and there is no quicker way to anger him than to threaten someone he calls a friend.

Backstory

I'll write all of this for real eventually...

Riptide is not summoned to the Returner's Guild in Orphi as he should have been, but instead materializes first in the heart of the Shrieking Wilds. He is found by one of the dragons of the Bronze Willow clan, a caretaker of the forest and its creatures named Oak, who gives him a proper name, Lusca, and sets him on a path to begin his refinement and discover who he is.

Lusca makes his way to the Sea of a Thousand Currents where he spends most of his time refining, meets more dragons and encounters a variety of sea creatures. He is drawn to the depths of the Leviathan Trench, and in exploring the deep, dark waters here, encounters the legendary creature he is named after. It is during this encounter that he is infused with the power to become and Aeon.

He is then transported by The Machine to the Returner's Guild where he meets a group of witches studying The Machine, the runes, and the Remnants. (These are characters I have in creation and I will link more about them here once they have a page of their own worthy of sharing.) It is revealed over time that his summoning was a mistake made by The Machine during the breeding of Dark and Water, that his appearance in Sornieth coincided with a surge of energy throughout that world that drew him there, and that that surge of energy during his appearance resulted in the mix of his elemental essence with that of the region where he appeared.

Having no summoner, and therefore no real home to return to, Lusca is given an island to reside on deep within the Returner's Guild, safe from the less-than-accepting denizens of Orphi. It has a beach with a small hut, made of sun-bleached wood and a roof thatched with tall beach grasses. The inside of his hut is magically enlarged to give him ample space to live in comfortably, and has a much more modern appearance than the exterior. His beach is backed by a plateau topped by a small forest, with a narrow switch-back path up. He has a peir that reaches out into the water, a small coral reef complete with the sea creatures that would reside there, and a stretch of deeper water in which to swim and practice control of his element.

A way to return Lusca to Sornieth through one of the doors on that world is eventually discovered, though he does not really feel that his home is there either.

He spends many of his days on his island enjoying what it has to offer, or with the friends he has made within the Returner's Guild, but Lusca often becomes restless and feels the need to explore new places or find new experiences. He spends periods of time exploring the various regions of Sornieth, and even comes to visit his friends' homeworlds with them.

Other Notes

Name Meaning: Lusca is a sea monster referred to in legends as coming from the blue holes off of the island Andros in the Bahamas. It is frequently described as a giant octopus that can change colors and reports of its size range from 75ft long to 200ft. However, it is sometimes also described as half shark and half octopus, or half octopus and half woman. The Lusca has been blamed for deaths of swimmers and explorers, as well as entire boats disappearing.
