CHILDHOOD

Luca Marlin was born in 1960 to Tomasi and Isis Marlin, in a small town in Wimborne Minster, England. Due to her mother being part of the pure-blood family Shafiq, but her father being muggle-born, Luca was classified as a half-blood. She grew up in Cornwall, but didn’t make many friends during that time. She instead spent her childhood days with her father, taking interest in his career as a dragonologist. She also attended multiple Quidditch World Cups, with she and her family supporting the Wimbourne Wasps. During summers, Luca and her parents journeyed to their vacation house in Luxor, Egypt, and visited Isis’s side of the family, which included her parents and six siblings. However, they harbored a grudge against Isis for marrying a muggle-born, and they did not get along very well.

ADOLESCENCE

At eleven years of age, in 1971, Luca attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for the first time, being sorted into Gryffindor House. At first, she mostly hung out with Lily Evans, and was very quiet and shy. Despite this, she became a Chaser for the Gryffindor Quidditch team, and was quite good at it. One day, while climbing a tree, she witnessed Severus Snape being teased by a group of students, and she was able to tell them off (mostly due to a particularly frightening RBF). After helping Severus to his feet, they began to spend time together, quickly becoming friends. Luca also happened to stumble upon James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew sneaking out of the school, and they enlisted her help to do so, after swearing her to secrecy. They spent the evening in the Forbidden Forest, and were chased out by centaurs for disturbing them with a game of Exploding Snap. Luca befriended them, becoming a member of the Marauders.

Splitting time between the Marauders, Lily, and Severus became tiresome - they all agreed not to bear ill will towards her based on who she hung out with, especially since she refused to participate in the bullying of Severus. During their fifth year, Luca secretly became an animagus along with the other Marauders, taking the form of a tigress (which would later be her patronus), to keep Remus company during his werewolf transformations. Since she kept her status as an animagus hidden from Severus, he didn’t know that she was there when he entered the Shrieking Shack to find Remus as a werewolf - she was already transformed, and later played it off as they didn’t tell her about the prank and she was asleep. During her sixth year at Hogwarts, Luca invited all of her friends to her birthday party, even though they all harbored resentment for each other. As they started to argue, she snapped and began to cry, screaming how they couldn’t do something nice for her just this once. Feeling guilty, they all agreed to a sort of “truce” for one night, to enjoy her birthday party. That simple act made Luca grow closer to all of them.

ADULTHOOD

Upon leaving Hogwarts, Luca was recruited to the Wimbourne Wasps as a Chaser. She bought tickets for the Marauders and Severus to come and watch her games, making it all the way to the Quidditch World Cup, which they won due to Luca’s efforts. If the First Wizarding War hadn’t started, she would’ve continued being a Quidditch player for the Wasps, but she felt that she couldn’t just sit by and watch as Voldemort and his followers tried to take over their world. She enlisted to become an Auror, and began training almost immediately. During that time, she attended the wedding of James and Lily, stepping in as the latter’s maid of honor since her sister cut contact with her. At the same time, Luca entered a romantic relationship with a woman named Naomi Cain, who attended Hogwarts with them, and worked in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement in the Ministry. She secretly tagged along during a mission to kill a member of Voldemort’s inner circle and was presumed dead, much to Luca’s anguish. It took a long time for her to open up again, and she developed feelings for a fellow auror named Osiris Ganem, who had Arabic heritage like herself. After long months of mutual pining, they confessed to each other and started a relationship.

After learning of the prophecy regarding James and Lily’s young son, Luca moved in with them to help keep Harry safe, though she was rarely ever home - her days were spent at the Ministry and out in the field, though it took a great toll on her mental health. It all came to a head when Lily and James were murdered, leaving Harry an orphan. Luca was not present to help them, as she was engaged in a bloody battle with a handful of Death Eaters, having survived an encounter with the Dark Lord himself a while earlier. Osiris had been killed during the encounter, and once more, Luca was crushed. She fled to Godric’s Hollow to find her best friends dead and their son scarred, and, along with Hagrid, brought him to Dumbledore on Privet Drive. As his godmother, Luca wanted to keep him with her, but Dumbledore deemed it safest to leave him with his aunt and uncle. Reluctantly, Luca helped see him off, and then started to retreat to the Ministry. She didn’t get far, for she was attacked by a masked figure, who tied her to a tree and threw her wand in the grass. The figure revealed herself to be none other than Naomi, and she claimed that Voldemort had saved her from death, and she had pledged her service to him for his “kindness.” She resented Luca for abandoning her, and said she would do the same to her now. She left Luca tied up and helpless until Dumbledore found her and brought her to Hogwarts to talk. The Ministry tracked down and killed Naomi for real that time, for she became reckless and tried to settle old scores since her master was defeated. He offered her a position as a professor to get away from the hardships of the Ministry, but Luca declined.

In the years that followed Voldemort’s demise, Luca turned to drinking to numb the pain of her losses, refusing to get treatment for her clear mental health issues. She continued to work as an auror, but remained closed off and distant from everyone. To top it off, her faithful owl, Ruth, passed away, sending her into amother severe downward spiral. She recovered enough to purchase a new owl, Fjord, who lifted her spirits slightly, but a new owl couldn’t cure the impending madness she was facing. In 1991, at age 30, Luca badly ruined a job for the Ministry, and was on the verge of being sacked when Dumbledore swooped in and saved her job by convincing her boss to let him take her to Hogwarts as added security. She fought tooth and nail against it, and resented Dumbledore for “ruining her career,” but as time passed, she became grateful for his intervention. She was also more motivated when she learned that she could watch over Harry during his first year at school. After years of no contact, Severus and Luca reunited and reestablished their friendship, while Luca started her auror tasks at Hogwarts.
