The pursuit of magic and its ability can sometimes be a noble thing, but sometimes the lust for knowledge and progress allow you to hurt others in ways you may not understand. Such was the case for Vetala and their master Daayan. At the time, Vetala was no more than a familiar, though at the time not the magical conjured type but merely a trained animal. They lived somewhere in the northern region of the Mwangi Jungle. Daayan was intensely interested in spirits and communicating with the dead and saught means of which to do so. Her patron had whispered to her techniques that allowed communication with other spirits, and Daayan was interested in pursueing them no matter the cost.

She needed a conduit and to that goal she created a gemstone the glinted like an eye, and implanted it inside the skull of Vetala, drilling a hole into it and wedging the node inside. The process was painful though by the grace of some god, Vetala was not injured in a way that could not heal.

Shortly after the gemstone was implanted, Vetala began hearing voices and seeing spirits. These possessions were short but unpleasant. Vetala would lose control of her bodies and mind at times whilsts Daayan would fervently take notes and attempt to speak with those who took Vetala's body. This magic was similar to that of Animists and their pocessions, however, the conduit of the stone was allowing this to happen without Vetala's consent. She was angry at the hands of her situation though was only capable of thrashing and barking at the situation.

As the experiments continued and Daayan attempted other things to increase the quality and length of her communions, Vetala began to change. Their mind expanded from the multiple visits from humanoid spirits and their posture also changed to reflect this and in due time Vetala began to exhibit traits of an Awakened Animal. With her increased intellegence and ability to speak on her own now Daayan was pleased to see her toiling had worked and Vetala was a vessel much more fit in this state.

The hell continued from there and worsened as Daayan wanted more and more contact likewise Vetala's hatred for Daayan grew everyday. Vetala desired to run away at first, but as the abuse continued the emotion turned more vile. Seemingly this ressonated with one of the spirits and one evening Vetala was taken by an extremely violent spirit. As Daayan let down her guard to speak with it, the spirit using Vetala's body lashed out at her driven by both of their emotions and slaughtered the woman in cold blood before reliquishing control backt o Vetala. Righfully horrified of the situation, Vetala fled the scene hoping to calm their nerves far away from the accursed home.

Vetala ran and ran and did not stop for what felt like days and even then they did not feel far away enough; however, their body gave out and forced them to rest. When they awoke from a much needed sleep, they felt much calmer and over the course of the next weeks came to terms with their situation. The gem embedded in their skull still communicated with spirits, but without the spurning of Daayan, they were able to more easily control it, and prevent the spirits from outright posessing them anymore. Despite coping with their situation in the best way they could, Vetala still harbored an intense dislike for spirits, and learned ways to ward them off from themselves using (THAUMATURGE IMPLEMENT) that had stolen from Daayans as well as things they had learned from her by force. Now with their life back in their hands and the path to slow recovery ahead, Vetala seeks to find somewhere they feel safe.
