Umeme

Umeme's mother, Moto, was a rogue who travelled her younger sister, Moshi. Moto gave birth to two cubs--Umeme and her brother, Ngurumo. Both lionesses presumed the male cub would die since he was so small and weak. Not wanting any more mouths to feed, they'd hoped nature would take its course--in fact they secretly harboured this wish for Umeme too since food was so scarce at the time.

However, as if gaining strength from his sister's warm and high spirit, Ngurumo indeed survived. He was so named because he always followed her wherever she went. Both cubs being treated somewhat distantly by their mother and aunt, Umeme was happy to have her "little" brother around all the time. She would always fight gently with him and wait for him as they walked, no matter how slow he was.

Though close, as they grow up and become more independent, their wants in life begin to diverge.
