The Curse:
Many decades ago Ray got cursed by a very dear person to her. From then on her body heals up quickly and completely on top of making her age very very slowly, wich makes her immortal as soon as the curse is active. Doesn't sound like a problem but the curse is slowly driving her insane.

Red Matter:
The curse itself manifests into a red matter that, depending on mood and situation, can get solid, liquid or gaseous. It mostly floats around Rays body or out of it depending on her feelings but she can change its aggregate condition and use it as a weapon for exmple.
Setting and AUs
Her character is originally set in urban  surroundings. There are also witch/vampire/demon AUs. Ray herself is rarely  shown with other people, at the most in context with important but anonymous characters.
