Monty doesn’t talk much about his past before Paradise Falls. Enslaved at a young age and forced to do manual labor for a decade, Monty built up strength and endurance along with increasing bitterness toward the raiders that treated him like waste.
He was freed by chance by a stranger who knew how to safely disarm the bomb collars, and he fled to the Commonwealth. The raiders were just as present, but they were significantly less organized. He took up with the gangs, but more so used them for his own pleasure- he rarely worked, and if someone gave him trouble, he killed them without much guilt. He maintains his raider facade as he goes about “taking back” what the raiders took from him, and he’s always able to sneak out just before a gang gets destroyed.
He hangs around the Combat Zone to make new friends and contacts. After the place gets closed down, he moves to Bunker Hill. After Bunker Hill stops allowing raiders, he slowly assimilates into the community as a chem dealer.
He finds the key to the Charleston Condo, finding it an advantageous place to bunk with how close it is to Bunker Hill. Nothing like living just two blocks away from the good gossip without needing to sleep around weirdos who may or may not recognize his face.
