Light 'Em Up

About

As a child, Edith embarked on a years long journey with her father, an esteemed biologist, on the Icarus. The Icarus was an ship built to travel between the planes and study what was found there. In that time, the crew became her family, helping to raise the rambunctious child who called the ship's halls home. It would have been a lovely way to grow up. Except for the part where it was destroyed.

She remembers the alarms and the panic the adults around her tried to hide. She remembers being placed into the escape pod by her father. And then she remembers being woken up by a dragon.

The crash had nearly destroyed her pod, but luckily for Edith, she fell into the den of a sapphire dragon who had the means to slow time and save the little girl who'd fallen into her home. Though she slept in the pod for over a hundred years until the dragon thought it safe to remove her, Edith didn't age a day. But with everything from her life before on the Icarus gone, she had her work cut out for her in learning to adjust to a world technologically ages behind than her own.

Azura, the sapphire dragon who'd watched her all those years, became a mother figure to her. Living for what felt like ten years, but may have been more, in the mountains with the dragon, she began to use the remains of her ship to build herself new technology. Called Climber by Azura for her impossible energy and inability to sit still, she began to build a new life.

But she did need to leave the mountains eventually. Finding ways to profit off the remains of the Icarus and selling her world's tech as her own here on Toril, she was able to secure herself a place in the Univiserity of Skyclave to further learn and study. With the University, she traveled to Lantan, an industrious country raised from the sea, and met another aritificer with a similar sort of spark. Jak carried a gun they'd built themself and listened to Climber ramble about magnets for longer than most would and so when both students were parting ways with Lantan, they traded addresses to keep in touch.

That was months ago now and their lives have taken some twists. Climber and Jak, accompanied by Sig and Homer, now co-captain the Impulse, a speedy little spelljammer outfited for just about anything. They've managed to slay monsters, kill a demigod, and have agressively repossessed a castle from a lich. It's not what the little girl on the Icarus thought her life would be like by the functional age of 20, but she wouldn't trade it.

Signus teammate

Sig is like the little brother none of them wanted but that they'd all fight a god to protect. Is he 16? Is he 12? He keeps claiming he's old enough to vote, but no one's really sure what that means like, numberwise. Or legally.

Homer teammate

Sometimes Climber has to squint and take a guess at which Homer is at the dinner table this week, but that's just what happens when your wizard dabbles with time and reality. While he usually means well, there's no denying Homer may be the biggest wild card in their deck at any given moment.

Messenger icarus crewmate

Built to help collect research samples on board the Icarus, Edith knew Messenger as, Forester as a gentle giant of a warforged. Since the crash and however many years have followed, he's gotten a little more aggressive out in the world on his own, but he still wants to protect little Edith.
