Profile

Shion was born in the small village of Teien as the first son of Kenjiro, a rice farmer who just inherited the farm of his late father, and Mitsuko, daughter to the local priest of the Seinaru faith. But their joy about the birth of a healthy son was swiftly marred by a thunderstorm, which send a lightning strike through one of the sacred Torii gates of Teien, breaking it in two. This bad omen saying evil would befall the newly found family, fulfilled itself half a year later when a mysterious man was able to kidnap Shion and bring him to Iluzal, a floating island in the skies made entirely out of ice.

The man, Asior, was a magician who created the island and founded the Cult of Lapis on it in order to ultimately get his hands on a legendary magic container called the Diamond Star said to hold the power of the ancient goddess Evraren. But in order to find it, he needs to fulfill certain conditions to open the portal to the Realm of Naught. One condition is to charge a large Lapis Lazuli, the most powerfull magical stone in the mortal world, with magical energy. So Asior seeks out children with high magic potential, kidnaps them and raises them as the 'Children that came from the holy Lapis', secluded on the island moving in the skies, far away from any other civilization.

Shion, renamed Ion by Asior, grew up on the island as a Child of Lapis and began showing his high magical apitude quite early. Soon he was taken in by Asior himself, who acted as the role of high priest of the Lapis Cult, as an apprentice, learning to control the water and ice elemental powers he developed. By the time he was 16, the magician officially announced Shion to be the next high-priest, consecrating him with a special ceremony. Of course, this all was part of Asiors plan to get the Diamond Star, as in addition to the magic-filled Lapis, he needed a magically adept human sacrifice to open the portal. Shion knew nothing about this and was just done as he was told, overjoyous about his mentor thinking he was fit enough to one day be his successor.

From this day on, Shion was treated like a raw egg, with servants to fullfill his wishes and lots of studying and magical training. He was also allowed into the Lapis hall, the place the Lapis Lazuli was set up, at every time and was given a special potion with said Lapis shavings which artificially extended his life, letting him age much more slowly. This was a treat only the high priest, his successor and the priestly servants had access to as these were the selected few contributing the most magical powers to the stone. Of coure, with the exeption of Asior himself, this happened without their knowledge.

The years went by in which Shion was secluded more and more from the outside world, even from the people of the Lapis Cult, and grew conceited because of his status and privileges. Soon his only friends were his faithfull battle sheep Agathe and her son Kai. But despite feeling quite lonely and empty, he continued to fullfill his mentors wishes, for he truly thought this to be his purpose in life.

It wasn't until one day, when an uproar caused by one of the priest servants, Lios, and the aftermath that came with it, casted doubt in Shion if what was going on with his life was really the right thing. Lios had been caught sneaking around Asiors private rooms, which was considered an act of high treason to the Lapis Cult. The high priest sentenced the boy to death, sending him over the cliff of the floating island without a second thought. Before his death, Lios had been shouting that they have all been deceived and used by Asior and that the whole cult was a lie. And while he sounded like a lunatic, Shion wasn't sure if what he said wasn't actually the truth.

Encouraged by Lios last words and frightened by the merciless actions of his mentor, Shion began his own research of what Lios said was true. When years later he was eventually able to find the secret records of Asior and learned the truth about himself and his mentors schemes, the world broke down on him. Everything, his whole life had been a lie and he was nothing more than a tool to fulfill Asiors desires. Learning all this, he confronted the magician about the records, only to suffer the same fate as Lios and be pushed over the edge of the island to fall to his death, together with Kai, who had been caught in the impact of the magic gust thrown at Shion.

Luckily, Asior had the conveniece to throw Shion off the island over a large lake so he was able to stop his fall by manipulating the water into a large pillar and washing him up the shore, before he collapsed out of exhaustion. He was later found by the people of a nearby village, Sherana, who took him in and nursed him and Kai back to health.

After learning of his former mentors plans and who he really is, Shion has sworn to himself to stop Asior from his plan to get the Diamond Star and bring chaos to this world.
