Balthier is a very business-like Pokemon. Oftentimes he is cool and calm, although he will briefly take a warmer approach if the moment needs it. He is selfish and will do anything that he knows will benefit him, even if that action harms other. Despite this, he isn't egotistical, and many will find it hard to tell that he has such a black-and-white approach when he does things.

Backstory:

For the most part, Balthier had a rather normal childhood, his parents being somewhat distant but not cruel. They taught him responsibility and independence at a young age, constantly reminding him that it was important to put himself as a top priority rather than other Pokemon. These teaching stayed with him as he grew, and remain his main way of thinking even now.

In his late twenties, Balthier set up his antiques store in a small home in Brightkeep. The place was somewhat dirty and cramped, but there were plenty of suitable shelves and a nice table that could be easily converted into a space to sell wares. He was proud of the work he had done to set the place up, even if their wasn't many Pokemon who came to his shop.

Unfortunately for him, hope couldn't pay bills or bring customers to his store. Fortunately for him, it wasn't too difficult to steal these items back. So that was what he did. Whenever a customer bought something, he would follow them around from a distance later that day, hoping to find their homes. He would then steal his wares back, hiding them in another room in the house until he deemed it safe to sell it back. So long as more Pokemon sold their own items to him, he could easily avoid suspicion.

After all, his safety and well-being is much more important than that of his customers. Who would even tell him otherwise?
