Luca Ein Voronoi

 ~ Biography ~

Backstory

Luca was born in June 1974 as the second child of Kat and Karl Bailey, only seven months after his parents moved from his mother's home country of Russia to his father's home country of America. He was very close with his stay-at-home mother and older brother Nik, but his father was physically abusive to his mother, and he could do little about it. Despite his father's anger issues, he had a very well paying job in Las Vegas and their family wanted for very little in terms of money. Luca always had new technology and games, and often invited his friends over to play, and was very popular in elementary and middle school. Nikolai turned 18 and joined the U.S. military in 1984, but was killed in action in 1986.

By 1987, when Luca was 13, Luca was the most popular kid in school, and he let it get to his head. His was followed by his small clique of friends, who thought he was extremely cool. He was very skilled at skateboarding and had mastered all of his games on the NES, and was practically unbeatable, both at his video games, as well as board and card games. He had a great deal of natural skill and intelligence, and got fairly good grades in school with very little effort.

In summer 1987, his life changed when he met the Hawking brothers, 14-year-old Jacob and 11-year-old Johnathan. They had moved from Reno, and Jake would be entering the same class as Luca. Jake had hoped to make some new friends before the beginning of the school year, but Luca was acting out after the death of his brother, and took out his aggression on the new boys, with both Luca and his friends bullying them for the family being relatively poor by comparison and Johnny being a nonverbal autistic child. Jake and Luca's relationship got even worse when Jake began bragging that Johnny could beat Luca at any video game he owned, and Luca accepted the challenge. Luca was extremely cocky and underestimated Johnny, who promptly defeated Luca in front of his friends, embarrassing him greatly and causing his groupies to begin bulling him for losing to Johnny, which was very much not "cool." Luca had never been so soundly beaten before, and was furious.

The fighting escalated until finally, Luca threatened Jake with a pocket knife, and chased him though the alleyways of Vegas. However, he made the mistake of asking for help fining Jake when he lost sight of him, and was knocked out and snatched.

The only person who saw Luca being kidnapped was Jake, who was hiding nearby. Despite the fact that Luca had just attacked him, Jake decided to help Luca. He picked up Luca's dropped knife and followed the two to the kidnapper's apartment, hid out on the fire escape, and sneaked in and saved Luca after the man fell asleep that night.

In the end, the kidnapper was arrested and sentenced to prison. Luca apologized to Jake, and awkwardly thanked him for saving his life, and Jake decided to forgive him after seeing how traumatized Luca was when he'd been saved. Over the next three years, Luca became best friends with Jake and friendly rivals with Johnny. Now partnered with his rival, Luca reclaimed his spot as the most popular boy at school, with Jake close behind. Luca was very popular with girls, and got a girlfriend when he was 14, and dated her until he was 16. He began stealing his father's cigarettes and took up smoking because he though it would make him look cool, but quickly became addicted.

In 1991, something terrible happened. Luca and Jake had gone out to the local arcade after school, and left after a sudden downpour began. Jake returned home later that night- and Luca didn't.

Luca was found hours later, beaten bloody and with a severe concussion. He was taken to the local hospital, and was unconscious for three days. Jake was suspended from school for attacking his classmate, but by the time Luca awoke, the whole school knew why the two had had a falling out, and word had even gotten back to his parents. His father was furious that Luca had embarrassed his family, and immediately requested to his job to be moved to a new city, so the family could move to a new city and start fresh, without rumors of his son going around. Luca never returned to his old school, or spoke to anyone at his old school again.

Story

In March 1991, Luca's family moved to Los Angeles and he began high school there as a senior. He had no friends, and had suddenly become introverted and quiet. Joining in the last few months of the school year was already awkward, but he also had two black eyes his first day of school. 

Branson Clearwaters, the football team's quarterback and a popular and well liked fellow senior, noticed that Luca was troubled and was not making friends or fitting in, and went out of his way to make friends with him. Luca was cold and unfriendly at first, but Branson was persistent, and eventually discovered that they both shared video games as a favorite hobby. They became fast friends over the next month, until...

Suddenly, Luca turned on Branson. He came to Bran's home told him to stay away from him, and that he never wanted to speak to him again. Branson could tell that he was extremely upset, and knew something had happened- but Luca insisted that he just hated Branson, and had gotten sick of pretending to be friends, and walked away. Bran could tell that Luca was lying, and chased after him- 

-right though a weak spot in the veil, and into the parallel world of Vigrid. They were now stranded in Vigrid, and separated. Branson found the elf, Kira, and began his story, while Luca was found by the vampire Ambrose Seilmann, and accepted being turned and became his second in command, showing an unheard of innate ability to control all five magical elements... unheard of since the death of Sage Sirius, the ancient hero, over a thousand years ago.

Legacy

Twenty years later, Luca comes in contact with Alex Kurotani. He's spent the last few years living as a mercenary, traveling around the continent and taking any job for the right price- as long as it doesn't take him to Gaile. He'd been getting progressively more frustrated with his just shy of 18 year old appearance, and had tried growing a beard to... somewhat disappointing results. His weapon of choice at this time was a six-inch yggdrasil wood stake, encased in solid silver. The silver pole could be compressed into a six-inch tube with a point on the end and a long chain attached to the back that cold coil up his arm and extend down his back, not quite long enough to touch the ground. It could be used in this form as a flail- but it was actually a compressed and spring loaded tube, and with the press of a button, could be extended to a five-foot long spear. The spring action was strong enough to pierce bone and the spear couldn't be re-compressed by human strength, but as a vampire, Luca can do so easily.
