"I'll be the judge of that."

Zen is a young ashuri who can either be your best friend or your worst enemy. He has his own sense of right and wrong as he takes it upon himself to spread life essence to the needy, and hunt down slayers. He donates to ashuri who have very little life left in them and doesn't take from them if he defeats them in combat. However he does take from ashuri that he knows have abundance of life energy, or taking an incredibly high amount from those he believes have done wrong or cheated the system (Such as slayers, or people who have been involved in under the table dealings with slayers but avoiding the "curse branding".)

Zen's family only is made up of himself and his sister. His parents gave up all their life energy to extend their daughter's life to as long as possible as they never wanted their precious daughter to fight. Kimiko was then branded with facial markings which caused guardian ashuri to question the child's morality to which Zen of course defended and was angered by the horrid accusations. Zen joined the ranks of guardian ashuri in hopes of establishing a better reputation for his family so that his sister could live comfortably while also hunting down other ashuri who gained markings but through darker means. Though Kimiko hated her markings due to losing her parents, he encourages her to see them as a symbol representing the love their parents had for her.

As one could easily assume Zen rather over protective of his sister to which many joke is a complex. Still Zen is quiet good natured and easy to get along with but he is always a bit distrusting of others as his job requires him to have a bit of doubt, often he goes with his gut, but he does do quite the background check on clients and opponents.

In his free time he is carefree and playful, but when it comes to business he can be serious and rather cold to the point where others have to keep an eye on him if he gets too emotionally involved in a case. Most of his time is spent either fooling around or digging up as much information on other ashuri's as possible that catch his eye in tournaments or from cases provided to him from higher ups. He also enjoys studying law and would like to go to college for it one day, but unfortunately he never seems to have enough time to ever do so.

Rowdy Start!

When Zen was 5 years old he was a rambunctious kid that got into a lot of fights with other students from one of many special schools for Ashuri. Unfortunately it wasn't always for training. But rather than being worried both his parents were relieved that their son turned out to be very strong. They tried to live their lives as peacefully as possible and only fought when they absolutely needed to. Eventually the small family grew a bit bigger with the birth of a baby girl named Kimiko.

The family doted on the young girl which caused Zen to grow a little jealous. Soon Zen got a little more rambunctious in an effort to try and tug his parents attention more his way. Sadly he went a bit too far and challenged the wrong kid and lost. The challenger took things even further and disobeyed the school rules. The kid took a prize for his win, gripping Zen's Syoran and almost crushing it till a teacher intervened. Zen was left with a shockingly low amount of life. Guardians very quickly stepped in next and helped restore balance. They called parents and made the kid give back what was taken from the ram. This incident caused a major change in Zen's parents.

Horrified and scared Zen's parents banned him from fighting and almost ripped him out of school. Realizing things had gotten out of hand, Zen actually listened and stopped getting into petty fights and started to buckle down on his studies. Still the event scared the family so much that when Kimiko got older they sent her to a human school in hopes she would be safer. His parents begged him to promise to protect his little sister from the violent side of their kind and he willingly accepted. While trying to become the perfect big brother his parents wanted him to be, he started trying to be more nice to his younger sister and over time it became more genuine.

The Hard Truth

When Zen got old enough he started participating in the Ashuri Tournaments in order to help himself and his sister, and lessen his parents burden as they still tried to provide for both of them. He did really well in them too but his parents protested saying that he should just leave it to them, he refused and they started arguing over it. Still he continued and after a while Kimiko grew more and more concerned over her brother's sudden bruises, scratches, and scars. Her parents would ignore her when she pointed them out and even Zen would shrug it off. After a while her parents stopped pestering Zen and instead tried to cover up his sudden disappearances and injuries. They were very careful and quite successful, at least as far as the family could tell, but later Zen would find out that Kimiko hadn't been as oblivious and accepting as she had let them all think.

The next year and lunar eclipse, Zen slipped out to the family's backyard and made his offering to join the tournament. As he prepared to enter through the dark gates he felt something grab a hold of his sleeve and the next thing he new he was standing in dangerous territory with his sister. Absolutely panicked Zen managed to get in vague contact with "officials" via an in between source. It was settled that the girl couldn't leave until the day's rounds were over, but of course she wouldn't be participating, instead she would be spectating. Now Kimiko had learned the truth and her families lies. Zen was practically sick to his stomach, but he also fought harder than he ever fought before.

And Then There Were Two

Now that the truth was out Zen's parents were distraught once more and worried over their precious daughter who they had tried so hard to protect. Feeling guilty Zen was at a loss for words and in an attempt to avoid the conflict he left the house in order to get some air and think while allowing his parents to talk to Kimiko, to help her make sense of what was going on. He'd go back home and everything would be super awkward and probably tense but if his parents were still freaking out he'd reassure them and calm them down. At least that is what he had hoped, but when he got home he was met with the sight of his parents laying on the ground motionless and his sister crying over them. Quickly glancing at the bodies in horror he ran over to check on his sister for injuries and upon looking at her face, he noticed new marking on her he hadn't seen before. His mind raced quickly through possible scenarios but only one made sense. It had to have been a willing exchange of life force. His sister wasn't a killer, there was no sign of struggle, and Kimiko couldn't even summon her weapon properly let alone fight. He tried to reassure his sister that everything was okay, even though the whole situation was wrong, and he himself was torn up.

Eventually a group of Guardians came to assess the situation which Zen was at first relieved at the sight of them as this wasn't his first run in with them, however this time quick accusations were throw around along with assumptions as soon as they saw the soul keeper markings on Kimiko. This angered Zen to the point he almost got into a fight with the Guardians which didn't help the situation one bit. Luckily the ashuri that was investigating the bodies helped to back up Zen's claims. The three would talk more and Zen realizing how much weight the markings would be on Kimiko due to how others could view them he tried to put together a plan of to help clear his sister's name. All of this would be documented and the two were now put on a watch list.

Loud and Proud!

Deciding it would be best to gain a better reputation for his family's status, Zen worked to become a Guardian while also using the title to hunt down ashuri that set a bad name for Soul Keepers. He is hellbent on hunting down the ashuri that "cheat" the system and ashuri that take too much life force to the point where someone doesn't have enough time to try to save themselves.
