The Design
Wes is a pale skinned man, with tousled, messy brown hair. His eyes are an off-red, and he has a noticeable amount of pink under his eyes. He wears thick, rectangular glasses.
Wes is quite tall, and because of his very lanky and thin frame, he looks even taller than he really is.
The Personality
Wes is that guy you see on the street and you know he has to be up to no good. He's often likened to a snake, a shady guy who probably has an ulterior motive. You can have a debate whether it's better or worse that he's incredibly personable and charming with his words over being a rough and tough person who pushes others away.
Ignoring his obviously sketchy aura, Wes can go up to anybody and speak with ease. He's a rather charming man, who can make others laugh. He has a silly side, enjoying making others laugh. To be fair, he doesn't have a desire to be a bad person. In fact, so long as his life is stable and secure, he's actually a rather upstanding person!
But rock his boat, make him just a little uncomfortable, and he's likely to panic and do something stupid. His defining stupid moment being throwing out his many years of dating to a single man and cheating on him when their adopted sons went missing.
Still, Wes isn't altogether a bad person. He does what he thinks needs to be done. He makes a lot of mistakes, and he tries to learn from them! Thankfully, he's stubborn, so once he's determined to right a wrong, he won't give up easily.

The Past
Westley Knowles is born April 27. He is a native of Denali Isle where this story takes place.
He went to school alongside James and Nadia, and befriended Alonso, a boy whose family came every summer and winter to vacation. The four got along great, but by high school it was obvious to the group that there was likely something more between Wes and James.
Even after graduating, the two didn't begin dating, instead opting to focus on school and settling into adulthood. It wouldn't be by total chance that James, years later, would offer Wes a job at the lodging cabins he owns. Wes took the job, knowing he'd be able to see James all the time. It wouldn't take terribly long for them to begin dating from there. Wes was 30 at the time.
Three years later, when Wes was 33, James' brother died and his kids were taken from their biological mother. The twin three year olds were given to Wes and James; James then promptly- and apparently lovingly- fired Wes so he could help out with the kids. Not that Wes minded terribly.
Things were great! Until seven years later, when Wes was 37 years old, and the boys were 10 years old. They claimed to hear voices sometimes, and overall it was a strange situation. Wes and James were aware of the legends of Denali, knowing people often heard voices before vanishing into the woods. And that's exactly what happened.
Wes and James were heartbroken, and took it two completely different ways. Wes couldn't help mend James' heart, he was brokenhearted from the boys going missing, and he couldn't handle all the negativity leftover in the house. So, a couple of months later, he ended up beginning an affair with another man.
A few months after it began, James found out and they broke off their engagement, Wes leaving with his new lover back to the mainland.
From the starting point of the story, Wes broke up with his crazy ex boyfriend roughly six months ago. He decided to come back to Denali, to try to repair things with James. He knows it's a crap shoot, but he also knows he fucked up hard.
