Skills

furunobe's heaven

Skill:
ephemeral sky - Shirakawa is able to produce a dream-like smoke of shifting colors, that of which has been made easier via the use of their pipe. While the smoke on its own is typically nonmagical, Shirakawa possesses the ability to channel their mana into it and pick out a certain effect for it to take, most of which focus on hindering others rather than direct harm or support. They are only capable of one effect at a time within a 10ft radius and has a cooldown of 4 rounds between effects, with the smoke dissipating after the end of each effect.

  • hallucination - causes those who inhale this smoke to see and hear a variety of things, though whatever they see is up to the mun rather than Shirakawa, acting similar to an actual hallucinogenic drug than illusion magic. this effect does not entirely incapacitate an opponent but can make performing actions extremely difficult (-1 accuracy). this effect lasts for 3 rounds.
  • poison - this smoke is denser and causes a choking, nauseating sensation. requires a defense roll and needs to rolled for every round the affected person is within the smoke or reenters the smoke. being poisoned causes a -1 debuff to either strength, accuracy, or evasion (which is determined by rng). as well, being affected by the poison for 3 rounds will make the victim feel physically weak, causing them to drop whatever items they may be holding. this effect lasts for 5 rounds total.
  • sleep - acting as a sedative, this smoke can cause characters who inhale it to fall asleep. the character must make a 1-5 roll, with a 1-4 being a successful save. on a successful save, the affected opponents feel only varying levels of drowsiness and slight dizziness. however, on a failed save, the affected targets begin to feel increasing fatigue and must begin to make disadvantaged rolls on ability/skill checks, meaning they must roll twice and take the lower result of the two rolls. after 5 rounds, the affected targets must make another 1-5 roll to remain conscious, with a 1-2 being a save. affected targets may be woken up 1 round after being affected by someone else, or may wake up naturally after 3 rounds or one hour IC if the mun chooses.

In regards to their pipe, it is not required for Shirakawa to use their skill as they can produce it naturally via their breath; however, due to their dampened magic, it helps to act as a conduit. Along with this, Shirakawa enjoys using a touch of apothecary to create their own herb mixes which have a variety of colors and scents.

Minor Skill(s):

shape - A minor skill in addition to ephemeral sky, which allows them to create small shapes and mostly solidified objects such as birds, hearts, or small animated scenes, or more hardened and sharpened shapes like minor weaponry. Moreso used as a parlor trick than anything, though it does come in handy for smoke feather or creating their lasso in scenarios where they need to restrain someone. The lasso relies on Shirakawa's strength (2) and can be contested with a strength roll for each turn. Any solidified shapes last as long as they are in Shirakawa's grasp, however they will naturally dissipate after 3 rounds of disuse.

smoke feather - Connecting to shape, Shirakawa is able to grant themself a pair of wings that allow them to fly. The wings are semi-solid, with the ends tapering off into smoke. These can be dismissed at any point, though if they go unused for more than 3 rounds, they naturally dissipate.

silver speak - A charming skill that helps to turn conversations in their favor, resulting in persuading others into listening along to their words and being more likely to agree to their suggestions. It is not full mind control as they cannot force anyone to do anything with this skill; however, characters with an intelligence stat of 3+ can roll to resist being charmed.

inner beast - Shirakawa's dragon form, which as of current is mostly inaccessible to them due to their dampened magic. This form grants them enhanced strength and durability (+1 strength, defense, and stamina) and is around 10 feet in height, however, trying to shift has become an incredibly taxing feat. It is not entirely impossible but takes 1 round to complete shifting, and they are forced to shift back after 5 rounds which causes them to black out immediately. Due to this, they almost never shift and in the instances they do, it takes several days of recovery to regain all their mana and the ability to shift again. When in the proximity of their twin, Yuuna, they are able to shift with ease and are not forced to revert back.

Combat

Weapon: smoke lasso

Weapon Type: magic, medium range

Combat Style: Shirakawa's fighting style relies more on redirection and avoidance, rather than actively engaging in any sort of combat or conflict. They prefer to disarm and disengage as easily and painlessly as possible with the use of their magic; however, they are capable of getting physical and using an aikido-like style to deflect momentum.

Background

Home Region: Ruby

Current Setting: Honeydew

History:

In the village of Furunobe, some years before the Collapse, a pair of dragon twins were born. As children to one of the shrine maidens, the elders quickly believed the twins were a sign from the gods - a blessing onto the village. In this belief, Shirakawa and Yuuna were raised with their roles in life already set. Raised with the teachings of the village elders and the shrine, the twins were taught from an early age how to harness their magical prowess and be pillars to the community around them. Even at a young age, the two were aware of the weight of their assigned responsibilities and the care they would provide to the village.

While Yuuna easily fell into this role, Shirakawa became increasingly resistant as they grew. Much to the dismay of the elders, they became neglectful and lazy with their duties; ranging from shirking chores to dismissing the concerns of villagers, they found no joy in the menial tasks and caretaking as Yuuna did. They craved their own wants and pleasures and satisfactions, to have the freedom to pursue their own vices rather than quell others. As such, they began to wander the edges of the forest and village, traveling further and further out as they could before dark. Sometimes, they were occupied with Yuuna in the forest - but for the most part, it was their own indulgence. Of course, this dissatisfaction was not something that was unnoticed. The elders expressed their concerns as to where Shirakawa's focus and dedication lied in those days, and when that did not sway them, Yuuna was given the task of persuading Shirakawa back to the village and their duties.

Their words almost held Shirakawa there. Almost.

However, it was not enough. It was painful to defy their twin more than anyone else, yet it was what solidified their decision in the end. They knew the softest spot in their heart was reserved for their other half, and as such, could not remain any longer if they truly wanted freedom. In the earliest hints of the morning, Shirakawa took what they could and left. For nearly two weeks, they remained on the move, aware that settling in the next village over was still too close to their former home. It was not hard to talk and charm their way into their needs and barter with the money they carried, finding food and warm beds easily enough in those coming days. Despite this though, their travels were not without issue. The further Shirakawa became from the village and their twin, the more drained they felt. It was after several days of this they came to the realization that the separation was weakening their magic and that this effect would remain if they did not return to Yuuna.

The next day, they left the Ruby borders.

When the Collapse came months later, Shirakawa's memory becomes a blur amidst the chaos and panic - only a few standing out to them clearly still. The worst, and perhaps clearest, was when they felt whatever remaining intuitive connection to Yuuna snap and the chill of knowing something dreadful had happened to their sibling, yet unable to know of what.

After their time on Earth and being escorted back to Magus, Shirakawa picked up their wandering lifestyle once again. Once again craving the thrill of something new, the dragon began to move from place to place in Palette. They busied their time with various jobs that caught their eye, as well as the company of others and the indulgences of anything that suited their fancy. It was nothing more than a path of their own pleasure, going after whatever they wanted with little regard to what they might be leaving behind.

Eventually, Shirakawa settled themself in the region of Honeydew, already passing through several towns and taking in the scenery of the island. It wasn't long until they found their current residence, taking up a job as a tea house host. It felt like a rather ideal fit for them, something relaxed and enjoyable while granting access to their own ways of life.

Overview

Shirakawa is, in the most general of terms, a kind person but not necessarily a good person. They carry themself with a rather relaxed and welcoming energy, quick to strike up a conversation and familiarize with those around them. Many find Shirakawa quite easy to talk to and typically hooked onto their words only minutes into a conversation. There is a certain type of care and compassion that they offer to others, though unconventional; usually through unalarmed advice and physical comforts and distractions rather than helping to assist the root of the problem. They prefer to keep a certain distance from other's issues, providing comforts without too much work.

Despite all of their niceties, Shirakawa is an incredibly selfish person to their core. While they never operate with malicious or purposeful intent in their actions, it is a fact that they only care for their own enjoyment and happiness. They impulsively act upon every whim and want that comes to mind, even when it is at the cost of others and their wellbeings. They tend not to care if they become an inconvenience or even hurt those around them with these actions, as the idea of concerning themself with how their wants might conflict with others around them rarely crosses their mind. Because of this, Shirakawa's relationships are easily severed and lost, something of which does not actually bother them much. They rarely remain long enough to see the damage and aftermath some of their more selfish decisions cause, as many of their escapades involve them wandering and region-hopping.

Ultimately, Shirakawa can be quite a difficult person to become close to. While they are an enjoyable and fun presence during surface level and shallower interactions, trying to dive deeper into a connection with them can prove rather frustrating.
