About

Toivo Koskinen left his ancestral homeland in 1954 for America to satisfy his thirst for adventure and find his fortune. Unfortunately, his journey would be cut short by the first of the wars to ravage the country. Eager to prove himself and protect his fellow countrymen, he enlisted.

After 3 horrific years, the war was won, and he was discharged. He used his remaining funds to start a family farm in an area of the country that somehow remained untouched by weapons of mass destruction and happily married in 1967 at the age of 31.
Toivo found great relief in watching his 4 children grow up normally and without any werewolf characteristics, but unbeknownst to him, his youngest daughter and son-in-law carried the recessive gene needed for lycanthropy, which they then then passed onto Taavetti.

Taav. born David Everleigh, displayed classic werewolf characteristics as a child which caught the wrong type of attention from everyone around him, except for his grandpa, who recognised that he was different and needed the guidance of someone who understood him.

Toivo loved his grandson dearly and taught him all about the Kuukoira in secret, their homeland, culture, history, and even language. Taav was completely captivated by his tales of Kuukoira heroism, his romantic descriptions of living wild and free in evergreen forests and subarctic tundra, and the excitement of knowing that some day, he too may be able to join them. One time his grandpa, thoughtful expression on his face, said to him, 'You know, back in our homeland they would call you 'Taavetti'.

Unfortunately, Toivo became very ill later on in life, and finally succumbed to his illness in early 2015, leaving Taav heartbroken and angry. His mother found it near impossible to control him, and he often argued with his parents over his behaviour, which they blamed on Toivo and his 'Fairytales'.

Finally, in an effort to force Taavetti to move on, they disposed of Toivo's possessions and forbid anyone in the household from talking about him.
Of course, this was the last straw for Taav, who succumbed to fury for the first time in his life, tearing up wallpaper, shattering windows, and splintering wooden furniture as if it were matchsticks.
Striking him twice with a hatchet, his father finally managed to make him come to, and drove him out in fear that something unholy had possessed him. He left in shame and fear for what he had, or may yet, become.

On the night he leaves home, Kaikkienäiti (The Mother of All) appears to him in his dreams in the form of a giant Weeping Willow, his grandpa silently sitting beside her overgrown roots with a kind smile on his face. She tells him to be strong and to not let himself grow bitter over his unfortunate circumstances, before instructing him to travel northwest in the morning, as 'Someone special' is waiting for him.

He does so, and after wandering for 3 days, letting his instinct guide him, he finds an orphaned raven fledgling whom he adopts and names 'Acorn'.

Acorn is obviously a very special bird, gifted with surprising intelligence as well as having a similar talent for communicating with the spirit realm, which nicely compliments Taav's own abilities.
The two grow and travel together, and become inseparable friends, supporting each other through thick and thin.

Taav holds a strict set of beliefs based on traditional Kuukoira teachings, such as respecting all living creatures, honouring the dead, and putting the wellbeing of nature above all else. He is effortlessly in-tune with the natural world, and can even communicate with plants and animals.

As a 'Plane Walker', he is able to step into other realms of existence by performing a rite of some sort, usually by drawing/painting glyphs, singing very specific complex melodies, or a combination of both.
His werewolf form is not suitable for Plane Walking at all, as not only will spirits avoid him, but he can also become easily enraged/ confused, which will either result in the rift collapsing, or him becoming completely and utterly lost within it.

Spirits are a tricky lot, and Taav knows this all too well. Depending on the spirit itself, he will use either his human or wolf form.
Human spirits and spirits of domestic animals will communicate with him in his human form, but most of the time, the spirit of a wild animal or some other natural entity will only communicate with him in his wolf form.
Every now and then, a spirit will refuse to speak with Taav at all, regardless of which form he takes, which is where Acorn comes in. She is the 'last resort' when it comes to dealing with stubborn spirits, and is often successful in bringing them around.

Unfortunately, his ability to mingle with humans is below average at best. He often doesn't understand societal norms, becomes irritated with certain behaviours or figures of speech, and generally dislikes cities and towns due to the acrid smells, over-stimulating lights, excessive noise, and of course, the crowds of people.

Kaikkienäiti appears in different forms to different people depending on their patron, which means Taav's patron is the Weeping Willow, symbolizing adaptability, strength in flexibility, secrecy, and an affinity for water/ swimming.

While he is completely in control of his feral wolf and human forms, he becomes both easily enraged and incredibly strong in his 8-foot werewolf form, and therefore avoids shifting to it unless absolutely necessary.

- He loves and values his friends more than anything else in the world
- His hearing is excellent, and his sense of smell is very good too
- He has protanopia
- He cannot eat anything that wolves cannot eat (which includes onions, garlic, chocolate, grapes, alcohol, etc)
- He will sometimes wear masks and/ or hoods to hide his identity when in human form, as he fears being found by his parents.
- He is physically affectionate, often to the dismay of those close to him, as he constantly forgets about the importance of personal space
- If he spends too long in his wolf form he forgets how to human
- Likewise, spending too long in his human form makes him forget how to wolf
- Werewolves usually 'grow out' of their violent tendencies by a certain age, thanks to the help and guidance of older and more experienced werewolves. Taav does not have a mentor, and so will struggle to control his emotions until adulthood.
- The scars on his chest were inflicted by his father's hatchet.
