With her half-sister Red, Poison was born on the outskirts of her land in the moors. After her mother had died, her father brought her back to the three-eye clowder and gave her a new home. Red was taken by someone else. 

Poison grew up troubled, feisty, and uncontrollable. She had frequent fits and no one in the Clowder appreciated her being the next in line ruler of the Clowder. She raged war on the rebelious outlanders and the ruler, her stepfather, for killing her mother.
