Backstory

Taliesin has lived a long, long life. Beginning hers in the dark ages of Wales, Taliesin was the only child of a highly respected scholar, who decided that Taliesin would be educated after the death of his wife during childbirth. Her early life was privileged and free of harsh labor as she spent much of it in the study. Around her early teens, Taliesin’s father was offered a position within the court and the two relocated to their new home closer to the crown.

Taliesin eventually found herself working as a tutor for the prince himself. He was only a few years younger than her which was why he tolerated her over someone older and stuffier. It was tutoring him that Taliesin was introduced to the palace’s best kept secret. The royal family’s cabinet of wonders. Their collection of strange objects with mystic properties from all over the world. From the moment she saw it, Taliesin coveted it.

She maintained her position within the court for years even as the prince became king. He saw her as an ally but Taliesin’s loyalty was shallow. She just wanted the privileges that came with the job and she would have been content with her role forever had it not been for the plague.

The plague did not care how important you were, it would inflict horrors upon you as it would with any peasant. It was only a matter of time before it had spread throughout the court, even to the king. The king had sent pages to find him an item in Greece. A golden thread from the Fates that would spare him from the plague. Though it reached the castle’s doors, it never met the king’s hand. Having learned what the thread was capable of, Taliesin took it for herself and stitched it into her own body.
