Profile

Name: Tao

Gender: Bro

Personality: Rather carefree and easygoing, but easily angered. He thinks of himself as the best T.A.C. ever due to his unique ability, and heavily dislikes it when someone tells him otherwise. He will in general be nice to people, but if they dare insult his ability once, he'll make sure they'll know he dislikes them for years to come.

Background: Unlike other 'The Ability Copiers', Tao's ability is unique. Some of the kids of the same generation were already transforming into the several other ability-users, whereas he was continuously trying to find out what was going on. Despite never finding out why he was so different, he learned to live with it and made peace with it. In fact, he was thus satisfied with his ability that he started bragging about it, and felt pretty damn good about the fact that he was unique.

Tao never quite needed his race' signature bag, and thus left it behind on display at home rather than drag it around. Instead preferring a small pouch to store his items in. Despite how he felt about his bag, it was still HIS bag, and when he came home one day, realizing it missing, he was angered and thus started traveling to find out who the hell dared steal HIS bag.

His travels took him to Pop Plaza, ending up hearing about this bandit and that everyone has trouble with him. Whether or not his bag was stolen by this same bandit, Tao still felt like it was possible, considering the fact it was apparently happening all over the planet, and not just this very town he was in.

Ability: Unique T.A.C.

Unlike other T.A.C.s, Tao doesn't 'steal' an opponent's power. He doesn't transform into his opponents. Tao's ability is literally to copy. He can copy and continue to use the last three abilities he has copied, but it is in general weaker and his inability to properly master them makes him limited to just the 'main' attack. (What you'd normally expect when you just press B once.)

He copies by either getting hit by an attack or by touching someone with a Copy Ability for a full second. His power activates only on voluntary basis; if he doesn't want a new ability, nothing will happen if touching or getting hit. The oldest copied ability will vanish when another ability gets copied. He also has the ability to 'kick the air', basically allowing him to double jump. This requires a bit of effort, however, and thus he can only double jump a single time per jump, rather than infinitely.

Copy Abilities

Copy AbilityDescription
AnimalTwo claw-like gloves appear on Tao's hands, allowing him to scratch at his opponents and to dig. Ironically, it's digging capabilities are better than it's attacking, and will only leave a minor scratch when used offensively.
BackdropTao grabs an enemy and is able to jump up and fall back downwards with the enemy cushioning him and the floor. Doesn't work with enemies bigger than Tao.
BallTao changes into a ball-like shape and is able to bounce. However, using this ability also negates him being able to move by himself. He becomes somewhat lighter, so someone else could throw him with ease.
BalloonTao gets a balloon like shape and is able to float. He is, however, unable to steer his floating.
BeamA staff appears, with which a whip of beam energy can be used.
BombA small bomb appears, which Tao can fling forward. Upon impact, explodes immediately. It's effect is too small to effectively do damage.
BubbleSummons a bubble that encases someone in it until it's popped.. whether from the outside or by the person inside.
CleanSummons a broom that Tao can sweep sideways, smashing it into an enemy.
CookSummons a small cooking pot in which Tao can prepare a meal. Not very effective as weapon.
CopyTao's method of Copying has been explained earlier in this post. It's innate, so this one should not be in the list.
CrashTao explodes in a wild fury, damaging the area 1 meter around him. It also damages Tao himself.
CupidAllows Tao to shoot arrows forward. Despite that wings pop out on his back, he can actually not fly.
CutterThrow a boomerang blade forward, that arcs back pretty fast.
FighterOne strong punch, causing a minor sonic boom.
FireAllows Tao to blow out a small flame, which he can keep up for about 3 seconds.
FreezeThe air around Tao becomes -1 degrees Celsius when he activates the ability. It is not very effective at freezing things instantly, and Tao is not exactly immune to it's effects himself.
GhostAllows Tao to walk through walls. And that's about it.
HammerSummon a hammer which Tao can smash forward.
Hi-JumpThis allows Tao to jump very high. Tao can still do his double jump afterward.
IceAllows Tao to blow out a cool breath, which he can keep up for 5 seconds.
JetLaunches Tao forward with great speed.
LaserAllows Tao to shoot a small laser forward. Unlike other lasers, it doesn't get deflected by tilted surfaces; it just stops as if it hit a regular wall.
LeafTao throws up a bundle of leaves. It's not very effective..
LightAllows Tao to make light appear from his hand. It has very limited range, but it can be used indefinitely.
MagicAllows Tao to throw cards at enemies. It has a low chance of inflicting paper cuts, but a high chance to be mildly annoying.
MetalTao changes into Metal, and loses the ability to move, since he becomes too heavy for himself to do so.
MikeGives Tao access to a Microphone that slightly amplifies his voice. A hit at Karaoke parties, but only affective at being annoying when it comes to enemies.
MiniShrinks Tao. He retains the ability to use other copy abilities, but loses the ability to double jump.
MirrorAllows Tao to split himself apart in two. Handy as evasion move, but Tao cannot activate other abilities while Mirroring himself.
MissileTao launches off like a missile.. which he cannot steer. He can't cancel the ability either, and the explosion itself also slightly harms Tao.. however, the explosion does quite some damage on enemies.
NeedleAllows Tao to coat himself in spikes. It's more a defensive move than anything, as Tao cannot use other attacks while being spiky.
NinjaAllows Tao to throw a Kunai at the opponent at blindingly speed.
PaintAllows Tao to paint. A great recreational ability, but it doesn't do damage to enemies, other than perhaps the pain of getting paint in the eyes.
ParasolTao gains a parasol. He can use it to whack opponents with... or to block rain and sunshine.
PlasmaUnable to charge the ability, Tao can only shoot small sparks with Plasma. However, he can do this quite fast and they have quite a bit of range.
SleepAllows him to sleep at night. Copy Ability? Er, right. Sorry. Tao is unable to get the Copy Ability Sleep.
SmashGives Tao the ability to punch very rapidly at point blank range. Good for a distraction, bad at actually damaging the opponent.
SparkAllows Tao to annoy others with static electricity. Not really that effective as attack.
SpearTransforms Tao into a Drago.. actually no, he just gets a spear he can use to fight enemies with.
StoneCover Tao with rock, making it possible for him to crush any enemy and to slip down every slope. The rock is very brittle though, so it's likely it'll shatter upon hitting anything.
SuplexTao can grab an enemy and perform a German Suplex on it. It is less damaging than Backdrop, but it can also be used on slightly bigger enemies. (Not Giant enemies, though.)
SwordTao gets a sword in his hand, allowing him to slash enemies with it.
ThrowTao can grab and enemy and throw them a few feet away. It's not very effective, and he cannot throw enemies larger than himself.
TornadoTao can spin, spin spin spin spin spin SPIN like a tornado, damaging enemies.. However, once he's done spinning, he'll be extremely dizzy and will most likely throw up from nausea.
UFOGives Tao a UFO to sit in. He can fly where he wants to, but it lacks any offensive capabilities.
WaterMakes Tao able to conjure crystal clear, pristine water. Great if you're parched, but highly unlikely it can damage an enemy. Well, maybe through drowning?
WheelTransforms Tao in a one-wheel motorcycle. It's effective at giving someone else a ride as well as making Tao highly uncomfortable.
WhipGives Tao a whip, with which he can whip enemies. WHA-PISH.
WingAllows Tao to throw feathers.. they're somewhat sharp.
Yo-yoThrow a yo-yo forward, arcing back upwards.

List lacking final abilities due to them being too rare for Tao to copy, and the 'ultra' and 'mix' versions of some abilities are lacking because Tao would be unable to copy them in the first place..
Also, this list is from November 2011, so any abilities that first appeared from games beyond Return to Dreamland are very likely missing.
