Card's arrival brought with it a lot of turmoil, given that it came with the announcement that Hearthstar was found dead and his successor, Owl, had appointed this random and unknown rogue as their new deputy. Not only that, but Owl, Card, and the medic Mintspring planned to steer the clan away from following Starclan and the code.

Behind the scenes, Card had stumbled into Owl & Mint's murder plot to depose the clan's tyrannical former leader, and Starclan had dragged Card into Owl's leadership ceremony to spite the young firebrand. But instead, the three decided to roll with the circumstances and become collaborators.

Card is not very invested in the politics, but he's having fun being a little shit and pissing off the other clans' leadership. He doesn't much trust Mint and Owl, and he doesn't take orders. His primary drive is to keep himself alive and well through whatever means are availiable, but he's deemed it beneficial to ally with them for now.
