Personality

Elliot is quite the catch-- running head-first through most of life's problems with only a battery pack's worth of caution. Hyperactivity aside, they've always been an individual of passion, curiosity and care for those the things and people they hold close driving many of their decision and actions. However, the ghosthunter has always had a tendency to clam up when her jokes can't break the negative tension of a room, confusion often taking hold and resulting in a cold cut-off from anything outside of her goals.

History

Elliot was always a rambunctious child, starting an uproar from the first time they entered the Tatsuta household, Emmanuel more capable of handling their energy than Dorine. With grabby, excited hands, they instantly took a liking to their sibling Zackary, though even more his previously-long hair. A few years passing and a couple of haircuts along the way, Elliot finally was old enough to attend school, her father inviting her to his and Zack's usual camping trip in celebration. Dorine was hesitant but allowed it, staying home while the group packed up and hit the road just as the sun was setting. However, all would not stay well, as about 45 minutes into the drive, Emmanuel pulled over on the side of a backroad to use the restroom. The sun already down, he promised the two children in the back seat that he'd only be a few minutes at most, disappearing into a nearby wood. Elliot, finding it almost impossible to stay still, exited the vehicle and walked into the field on the opposite side her father disappeared into, leaving Zack alone in the van.

In the field then, Elliot made a fair distance inward, finding a section of flattened land with a singular object in the middle. Curious, the child lifted it upward to their eye, peering through the triangular stone's central gap. A bright light and searing pain rang through their face instantly, a violent scream echoing through the air, a few moments passing before they fled back toward their father's van-- one hand clutching the stone with the other covering their injury. When they got back, however, Zack was already out of the vehicle, startled by a similarly strange experience and the fact Emmanuel was nowhere to be found. With nothing left to do, the two waited for a while before abandoning the van and taking a long walk home.

Dorine did not believe their stories, the two children sent to their rooms while an investigation was called in. They both continued to plead their beliefs, Elliot claiming ghost while Zack was sure it was the work of aliens. This division tore the family in two when all search parties came up empty, Dorine consistently pleading with her children to 'tell the truth.' Distrust bled through their relationships, Elliot that same year entering Elementary School to deal with a plethora of bullying and further disbelief of their ideas. However, she knew she was right, for on the night that they returned from the failed camping trip, Emmanuel's ghostly, glowing figure was seen by the child overlooking the two's beds before suddenly looking away and dispersing. She knew he was out there still.

Middle school was easier on one hand though, as Elliot chose to skip it entirely, spending their days out in the same forests that Emmanuel was last seen in. They slowly became more comfortable with their ability to see ghosts, finding that they have different temperaments and forms, even manifesting for plants that have recently passed. However, despite their mechanical and inventive genius, bringing home poor grades only made Dorine act colder, the growing child choosing to shut down their emotions and flee whenever they could. Communication with Zack was scant, the two having moved into their own bedrooms and rarely seeing each other outside of dinner or room-passings. This didn't last forever though, as Zack was under his own pressures, and the two caught each other sneaking out at the same time one night, finally confessing the frustrations they had and coming to an understanding with a night spent on the roof.

High school went by quicker, Elliot catching up decently and joining a small robotics club at her and Zack's school. They even learned how to drive through a Driver's Ed program that was offered and took ownership of their father's old van. As soon as Zackary graduated, the two officially started work on the business the two thought up a few years before, forming a small studio in Elliot's room for their podcast and multi-media network: Ships and Spirits. Two years later, the duo used their small platform to leave their mother's tense household and set off for the road, discovering as many hoaxes and haunts as they could.

The two still work together and search tirelessly for the truth behind their father's disappearance, holding each other close through everything that comes. They make frequent stops at hotels, abandoned buildings, and large agricultural fields when they're on the hunt, but love resting and visiting town arcades, libraries, and museums when they have the time.

Relationships

Emmanuel "Manuel" Tatsuta
[ father † ]
Only knowing Manuel for a short amount of time before his death, the two were still a very close unit in the family. Manuel loved Elliot for their rambunctious nature rather than scorning them for it, finding passion in both of his children as readily as he found something to smile about in the day. His disappearance left a hole in Elliot's heart, however, the ghosthunter spending their entire life searching for his comforting glow as an answer to their questions.

Dorine Tatsuta
[ mother ]
Dorine was a decent mother before the disappearance of Manuel, finding the sudden nature completely unbelievable and choosing to turn against her children in the confusion. The disdain for their story made Elliot frustrated, the anger turning inward and forming isolation from and passiveness toward their sibling. However, upon admitting to themself that Dorine's words didn't matter, the effect of her nagging wore off some, Elliot able to stand peacefully beside Zack again. The words still sting though.

Zackary Tatsuta
[ sibling ]
The older Tatsuta sibling, Zack has always been the driving force of caution in Elliot's life, grounding their ambitions and ideas in reality before they take one too many steps off a ledge. The two hold a close bond despite their diverging interest, tied together by a feeling of security and curiosity linked with worlds beyond their own comprehension.
