Dier is an antagonistic man by nature, bitter, callous, and generally disinterested in other people. From a young age he poured himself into his magic to the point of a dangerous obsession. Learning the majority of his magic from his father - a drunkard who died in a ditch after failing to reach any kind of notable success - he yearns to acclaim to some amount of notoriety to escape his peasant-upbringings and fears of falling to the same fate. In his teens he killed his younger brother in order to eat his heart and thereby siphon his magical abilities and in the process killed their peasant mother who got in the way. He plans to one day become a God and bring his brother back to life but often purposefully gets sidetracked in fear of reuniting with him. Dier can usually be found wandering the countryside look for farmer's daughters - or anyone's daughters for that matter - to sleep with, or loitering around towns until he's run out of them for his consistent vagrancy and debauchery. Although extremely misogynistic and selfish, he secretly respects and cares about Etienne. Although more often that not he plays this off to both himself and anyone else that it is simply a strong desire to bed her.
