Profile

Appearance

Zaya is a full-blooded au ra of the Xaela. Tall for a Xaela woman, she is built lean but muscular, with wiry muscle. She is incredibly fit and strong, despite her short stature. She has black scales and horns that curve in towards her face. Her scales are most prominent on her neck and shoulders, also reaching up along her jaw and covering her nose. She has straight jet black hair that is often unkempt, with crimson streaks dyed. Her skin is bronze with tan. She has blue-green eyes with umbral rings of the same color, albeit brighter. Her tail is long with some frills at the base and three forks at the end.

She likes to dress practically, usually in dark colors such as black and red. She avoids blue at all costs. She favors shirts and trousers and will usually be found wear greaves or boots. She doesn't particularly like jewelry as they don't work well with her horns.

Background

Born the eldest daughter of Tarkhan and Bayarmaa of the Dotharl, two of tribe's best warriors, Zaya was always in the spotlight. She and her younger sister, Narantuya, often trained together. But even at a young age, Zaya could tell that her little sister was not suited for violence, no matter what her past life may have been. Zaya did her best to aid her sister, to the point of performing chores in her stead and letting her take the credit. She worked extra hard to protect her sister from the shame of not being a warrior among the Dotharl, all while becoming one of the tribe's best.

Zaya drew up alongside Sadu, being a few years younger than her, and also knew Cirina and, unfortunately, Magnai. She greatly respected and looked up to Sadu, even having a crush on her when they were teenagers. She clashed with Magnai a lot, getting into arguments and physical fights with him. She did not think much of Cirina, due to the Mol being the weakest tribe, but she was never rude or mean to the younger girl.

When Zaya was 21, the "success" of her sister's missions led to her being given a mission of grave import—spying on the Oronir. Naturally, Narantuya was terrified, and thus begged her older sister for help. Realizing this was her own fault, Zaya agreed to go in her sister's stead. And so Zaya snuck off to spy on the Oronir. She performed the mission perfectly... only to get caught by her tribespeople on her way home.

The truth came out. Zaya's family was humiliated and dishonored. She was exiled from the Dotharl. With nowhere else to go, Zaya left the Steppe, angry and bitter that her sister could not be accepted for who she was. For a year, she traveled Othard, until she decided to venture to Eorzea, disliking the Garlean presence everywhere she went. And so she arrived in Ul'dah, to join the Gladiators Guild.
