Profile

ayecks was originally a special prototype battle droid, designed to command troops on the ground. the b1-x was found to be flawed, however, as the increased intelligence compared to the standard models made them behave unpredictably. although the b1-x droids were terrifyingly effective at crushing opposition, the decisions they made were often rash and resulted in higher troop losses, the opposite of what they were intended to do. one b1-x in particular was noted for making decisions that did not result in excessive troop loss, but this was not enough to save the program entirely. despite their effectiveness in the field, the project was swiftly cancelled due to the rising upkeep costs associated with having them as commanders and their increasing propensity for unnecessary violence. the b1-x was later modified into the bx droid commando, which would go on to be much more successful.

ayecks was the lone b1-x to escape destruction. after an encounter with a civilian who managed to touch her mind, she developed sentience and free will, but most importantly - empathy. she began to subtly disobey her superiors through sabotage. she narrowly avoided deactivation and went on the run, slowly replacing parts of her body until she was no longer recognizable as a b1-x. still dissatisfied with her hodge-podge body, she eventually saved up enough to pay a droidsmith to fashion her a custom chassis, resulting in her current appearance. this was no easy task, however, as droids were widely distrusted during the clone wars, and it was difficult for ayecks to find work without a 'master'. even now, ayecks opts to hide her true nature and wears clothes to avoid suspicion, keeping as much of her body covered as possible. if confronted, she will claim that she is a cyborg, or that she's wearing a mask.

eventually she was lucky enough to find someone willing to sell her a ship, a freighter that was in poor condition and had been heavily modified so that it could only support one person at a time, which made it useless to most shipping operations. she joined the rebellion as a part-time cargo operative, helping smuggle supplies and personnel behind imperial lines. this suited her fine, as it was a way to help and lie low at the same time, and she liked that the rebellion didn't ask questions about whether or not she was a droid. she found herself thrust in the spotlight, however, after she commandeered a damaged y-wing to assist in a dogfight and saved the rest of the squadron. this also revealed her droid status to the rebellion, as the fighter's airlock was damaged. after the battle, her cohorts proved to her that it didn't matter what species she was or wasn't; their acceptance influenced her to accepted the position of lieutenant and became a fully-fledged member of the rebellion.

fun facts:

- ayecks doesn't trust easily. she's very wary of organic beings and almost always performs maintenance herself. her limbs are modular, allowing her to easily remove and reattach them so that they can be worked on separately, and she has many failsafes built in so that her processor function is retained even if shot in the head or torso.

- her hands shake. this is not a programming or physical fault, and she refuses to allow technicians to work on her to solve the problem. it is a psychological problem that cannot be fixed mechanically or through coding. she sometimes wears stiff leather gloves to stabilize her wrists. strangely, her hands always quiet down when she's flying a ship.

- she allows her most trusted friends and companions to paint designs on her outer plating. these white designs change over time as paint wears or plates are replaced. anything in orange is added by her, however; she has her name printed on her right forearm and mission tallies by her left knee.

- she enjoys painting as a side hobby. most would find this a little strange, so she keeps it to herself and usually destroys her works immediately after making them, though on occasion she's managed to sell her works anonymously over the net, which allows her some income.

- ayecks has tactical battle programming, but not much else is hard-coded into her. much of what she knows she had to learn herself, and as a result her thought processes are more akin to an organic being's than a droid. she only knows a few languages, is a terrible navigator, and is capable of forgetting (though it takes her much longer to forget than it does for organics).

- her freighter is named the century vector. it has a modified cargo hold that is just barely big enough to hold a starfighter, if it is maneuvered with extreme precision. the y-wing she commandeered was left behind because its seal was damaged, making it unusable for organic beings. it also has a large rip on the side, earning it the nickname the scar.
