Upon first impression, Palace can come off as apathetic, ominous, and sarcastic. However, upon getting closer to him, you'll find, at the end of the day, is a loyal, headstrong osprey and leader of his tribe. Before his apprenticeship years, his father died to to an unknown sickness, forcing another Sea Talon member to step up as temporary leader. The same bird would train Palace for his upcoming position as soon as he was of age for apprenticeship, making him an easier target for Arima to manipulate in becoming a Shadow Bird.
