Charon was created to sort the deceased between heaven and hell and leads them to their destination.
He is generally interested in the living, so he enjoys listening to their stories, no matter how brutal or boring they may be.
He also manages a gigantic archive with lists of the dead, their stories and how they died.
So if someone happens to be murdered, he can already judge the murderer even before they died, making his job a whole lot easier.
