Self-loathing Persevering Gloomy Wary Strong

I disregarded everything in my life to chase after one glimmer of hope.

Irin thinks very lowly of herself and views herself as a terrible person, even if her actions are anything but a majority of the time. She genuinely wants to help others even if she denies it; she can't just stand by when someone clearly isn't strong enough for whatever they're facing.

Physically strong, Irin is more than capable of holding her own in battle. It's the little bit of excitement she gets and she almost seems to yearn for it at all times. She also has a bad habit of trying to show off in front of others.

Irin has very pale skin, and long, messy black hair. Her eyes are golden and have an anger behind them. She's slim but deceivingly strong. She typically wears a black shirt and pants with a red overshirt, and knee-high boots. There is a bloodied cape over her shoulders.

History

Falling Down

She disregarded her guide's advice, believing someone she cared about was able to still be saved. She cast herself down into Avernus, now a fallen aasimar, and failed to bring her girlfriend into the redemption Irin desperately sought for her. She was now stuck in Avernus, without a guide to aid her, and without the one she lost everything for.

She eventually grew accustomed to her new life in the top layer of the nine hells, and has made a name for herself, earning both allies as well as dangerous enemies. She never liked being there though - she hated every moment of it - but on some level she felt this is what she deserved and that she didn't deserve better for what she failed in, and what she threw away. This is exactly where she felt she belonged.

A Second Chance

Eventually she happened upon a strange group that were very obviously new to Avernus. Out of boredom and a strange sense of curiosity she followed them for a while, all the while becoming more and more interested in their goals the longer she listened in. She almost wanted to be part of it, even, and finally decided to take the plunge and follow them. While they were initially suspicious of her, they relented and let her join as they needed all the help they could get. Irin learned more about their goals and where they planned to go, and helped them all she could with the knowledge she'd gained from living within Avernus.

They traveled to the Bleeding Citadel to claim Zariel's sword, and while inside to her absolute shock she found Elaine, who she had presumed dead at this point. Unfortunately, due to the effects Avernus had over her at this time, heightened by the painful reminders of where she was, she took out her anger on Elaine. It worsened further when Elaine insisted that she had never met Irin before in her life, and in her anger Irin attempted to attack, but was too upset to do any harm. Elaine ran away and Irin was left with her party, distraught.

They continued on, sword in the hands of Harmon, one of the party members, and with additional allies they had gained they made their way to Elturel to confront Zariel.

Redemption

It was when they were going to destroy the Companion that Irin saw Elaine again, who she immediately froze in place with a blood maledict, wanting to avoid fighting her further. They fought the other devils who were guarding the Companion, and eventually Harmon succeeded in destroying it with the power of Zariel's sword. This instantly gained the attention of Zariel herself who suddenly teleported to their location, ready for a fight. They spoke with her, attempting to reason with her, to convince her to stop this fight and return to Celestia, and that there were people who were wishing for her return. Although they had doubts that this would work, she finally agreed with them to return, much to the shock of all present. With her sword reclaimed, she was redeemed and regained her angelic form, and helped raise Elturel up from the threat of falling into the Styx.

Irin, remembering Elaine now that the threat of battle had passed, pleaded to have Elaine restored to what she once was, but unfortunately Zariel could either restore her memories, or her mortal body, but not both. Even worse, Elaine was against either option, still angry with Irin and offended that she wasn't giving up on her claims of previously knowing her. Irin gave up on what felt like the fruitless task of convencing her, and asked if Elaine would accept her becoming a devil as well, which after some thought she did accept.

Harmon, overhearing this, prayed to his god, and because of the great works he had accomplished, gained the use of a single wish. He spoke to Elaine, asking her if she could imagine feeling such love for another, as Irin did for her. She replied it was stupid but admirable all the same, and finally accepted the offer of regaining her memories. With Elaine's memories restored, Irin embraced her, feeling happiness she forgot possible. Zariel promised to restore her mortal body once they had returned Elturel, and Harmon had taken care of the lost memories himself.

After returning Elturel and saving those who lived within it, Irin finally had recieved what she had spent half her life suffering for, something she thought impossible. Although she didn't know it, she had also recieved something more herself: she was fallen no more.

Other Information

She has anger issues that she struggles with constantly, leading her to be rather snippy and sarcastic if not outright hostile and yelling.

Even after being restored to what she was before going to Avernus, Irin is hesitant to show her true aasimar form, a part of her disbelieving that she's changed, and also feeling she's undeserving of such a miracle.
