ABOUT

Beatrice spent most of her life within the library fortress of Candlekeep, under the guardianship of her foster-father Gorion. Children were an oddity at the keep, though she found a friend in Imoen. She had always been enraptured by her foster father's countless tales, though not so much the content as the art of the telling. She surrounded herself with ancient legends and endless lore, and developed quite a skill for showmanship. One of Candlekeep's cooks became quite fond of her and, between recitations of often bawdy poems and songs, he provided her with somewhat haphazard voice instruction. Gorion, in his kindness and wisdom, urged her to find another teacher before she ruined her voice for good.

When she left Candlekeep, finally she was able to realize her dream of travelling the lands, picking up new tales to fuel her inspiration. Still, it was bittersweet. Gorion's death and the discovery of her true parentage took a toll on her both mentally and physically. She smiles less than she used to but desperately tries not to be overcome by her sorrow.

OUTSPOKEN

She speaks her mind and doesn't consider her words before they leave her mouth. Sometimes to her benefit, sometimes not. She will tell people exactly what she thinks of them, speak up at inappropriate times, or talk back to authority figures she disagrees with.

LIVELY

Despite her internal struggles, she maintains a sunny disposition. She loves meeting new people, going new places, and will always goes about these things with a vivacious energy.

PRIVATE

While she is always interested to learn more about others, she doesn't often speak of herself or how she feels. She keeps her emotions close to her chest, writing to herself in her diary or attempting to expel negativity through creativity such as poems or songs.

Interview

HOW CLOSE ARE YOU TO YOUR FAMILY?

"I... don't have much left. Thank the Gods I have Imoen. I think I'd just about go insane without her. We write often, but my heart aches for her company. There's also Anomen who isn't family... yet. We're already had to reschedule our wedding twice over because of how busy we keep! Still, he doesn't have much left in the way of family either. It helps. Talking about it, I mean, and having someone around me who can relate."

WHAT IS/ARE YOUR FAVORITE HOBBIES AND PASTIMES?

"As much as I love the tales I hear of and encounter all across Faerûn, I enjoy writing my own fiction, too. It's nothing extravagant, but it brings me some peace to have my own little fantasies scribbled on the pages of my journal. Some of them are... risque in nature. But shh! Don't tell anyone or they'll discover what a filthy minx I truly am!"

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 10 YEARS?

"Well now, I don't plan to stay on the road rescuing folk forever. I want to settle down someday, a quaint place. As much as I love the bustle of the cities, growing up at Candlekeep has given me a bias towards charmingly quiet and picturesque locations. Maybe it will be good for my inner poet. I never quite got the hang of poetry, but I suppose a little cottage on a lakeside could stoke those flames. I'll write something so flowery and verbose it would make even Haer'Dalis faint from the sheer magniloquence of it all."

DO YOU HAVE A SPOUSE OR SIGNIFICANT OTHER? IF SO, DESCRIBE THIS PERSON IN SOME ROUGH STROKES.

"How do I begin to describe my chivalrous, handsome knight in shinning armor? Do I begin with his moral compass, as true and steady as his blade? Or perhaps I should mention his admirable modesty, never chasing fame, never boastful? No, because I'd be lying. What I will say is Anomen has a face and body lovingly sculpted by Lady Firehair herself, and since he's left behind Radiant Heart, he's lightened up a lot. Phew, it only took him failing to achieve his entire life's goal and a mental breakdown of epic proportions. Those were... interesting times. Er, don't tell him I said any of that. He tries to act like he doesn't care, but he's definitely still prickly about it."

WHO ARE/WERE YOUR PARENTS?

"On one hand, I have Bhaal and on the other, I have Gorion. The way I see it, Gorion is my real dad. He was the one who raised me. I try not to think too hard about being one of Bhaal's little murderous deathspawn."

ARE YOU OPTIMISTIC OR PESSIMISTIC?

"I consider myself an optipessimist. I either assume the best or the worst at any given time and never anything in-between!"

WHAT IS YOUR MOST TREASURED POSSESSION?

"Along my adventures, I've picked up many a mystical artifacts and unique oddities, but would it be too cheesy to say my most prized gift of all are the friendships I've made along the way? Probably. Well, too late, I said it and I won't take it back!"

HOW DO YOU SPEND A TYPICAL SATURDAY?

"Oh, you mean Annoy Anomen Day? It's a weekly tradition of mine. Or perhaps a daily tradition depending on who you ask."

Relationships

Gorion [ foster-father ]

The man who raised Magnolia from infancy until his untimely death in her adulthood. Gorion carefully kept her divine heritage a secret, raising her as a normal little girl. He was a good father to Magnolia, attentive and loving, always encouraging desire to sap up all the knowledge she could. Often he would pull her aside and offer kernels of knowledge, of which she would enthusiastically take heed of. Witnessing her father's death has left her enraged. She became consumed with thoughts of vicious revenge against his killer, her brother. Magnolia discarded most of the late sage's moral lessons, feeling Gorion had too idealistic a view of the world. Be that as it may, she loved and still loves her father greatly.

Anomen Delryn [ partner ]

Obnoxious, arrogant, and whiny is how Beatrice described Anomen when they met. Even still, she'd say he's all of these things but she loves him anyway. She sympathizes with his troubled family life, and after the death of his sister, she resolved to cheer him up despite his grating personality. She would huddle near a fire with him at night, reciting riveting bardic tales and singing beautiful and comedic songs. Sometimes, he would even join her in her merriment, singing along with her. She began to question if maybe his personality was merely an acquired taste when she realized she didn't quite dislike him as much as she remembered. When he began courting her, she gleefully accepted his attentions and flattery, delighted with the benefits such a relationship could provide. Over time, what was once a fun, fleeting fancy cultivated into a genuine fondness for him where she found comfort in his embrace and his company. Surely, past Beatrice would laugh at the mention of such a possibility.

After the events at the Throne of Bhaal, they went on to adventure together. So prolific are their careers that the proposed date of their wedding keeps being moved back, either due to impending crisis or some lucrative adventure that one or the other insists on investigating. One of these days, they will be wed. Until then, they will continue journeying on.

Imoen [ step-sister ]

Imoen shares a close relationship with Beatrice, having grown up with her at Candlekeep. In their childhood they would regularly cause headache for the monks by getting into antics all through Candlekeep. The monks knew to give them a wide berth (or a good pre-emptive talking to) when they were huddled together, whispering to one another in the more dimly lit corners of the grounds.

Before discovering their familial relation through Bhaal's blood they had already become the closest of sisters, and would have continued to consider each other as such lacking the revelation. Even in adulthood, their bright personalities complement each other, becoming more brilliant when they are together. Usually, they can be found near one another laughing, joking, and gossiping their idle time away, and during times of hardship, one can always be found near the other.

Haer'Dalis [ friend ]

Beatrice admires Haer'Dalis' bardic skills. She marvels at how he can turn simple everyday speech into something beautiful. He introduced her to theater, speaking of what it's like to create plays or become an actor. He inspired her to broaden her horizons and encouraged her to keep pursuing her own boundless creativity.

Haer'Dalis and Anomen dislike each other, however, and are always throwing insults back and forth. Haer'Dalis particularly doesn't like Anomen's arrogent nature. Maybe it was for the best the elf had to return to his own lands. Still, Beatrice misses his company.
