Katsuya was the youngest Bakeneko (Monster-cat spirit) to kill its owner and acquire a two-forked tail. From this event, he became a Nekomata at the age of 6 and was anticipated to cause deep trouble in the Yōkai world. As a result, the Bakeneko shunned him out of fear for his immense power at such a young age. He lost his right eye as a result of torture from his people - later being given an artificial replacement as he was eventually received by the Kirin God. Under his tutelage, he became well-tamed over the next few decades inside the palace. After seeing how well he turned out to be, the Bakeneko leaders would attempt to convince the Kirin to send Katsuya back to his own kind, as they believed he could become a real asset to the species. After multiple failed negotiations, Katsuya continues to remain inside the palace and wander freely in the Yōkai world for night entertainment.
