Summary

Tama is a diligent and hardworking student, but she was not part of any clubs or committees until she was chosen to be part of Atobe’s joint school festival committee and put in charge of Seigaku’s tennis team. Though a bit overwhelmed by the regulars’ unique personalities at first, she strived to do well at her job and helped out with Seigaku’s three festival booths. Her natural talents in organization allowed her to juggle committee work and support for the regulars well, yet at times she ended up overworking herself without realizing it. Still, she had an enjoyable time, getting to know the club members and being given a glimpse of the tennis world they live in. This experience is what ultimately drove her to sign up for the Girls’ Tennis Club soon after the end of the school festival.

On the outside, Tama gives off a cheerful and optimistic vibe, and someone who is easy to talk to. Because of this, people easily open up to her, and she’s often consulted for advice – this can be difficult for her, since she’s only really good at giving practical advice rather than emotional, considering that she’s still wrangling with understanding and controlling her own emotions herself! In fact, a lot of her actions and reasons for doing things are emotional, though she doesn't realize it. She’s very driven, and once she sets a goal on something, she will work towards it with a bullheaded stubbornness. It’s a testament to her character as a hard worker, but it has caused problems for her in the past, because she ends up being blinded by her focus. Furthermore, while she’s ready to help others while she can, she seldom talks about her own problems, instead bearing the burden of it on herself. She’s a resilient person who is able to bear a lot of stress and hardship, but there’s a limit to even that, and when she goes past that limit it crashes down on her in a spectacular, overwhelming fashion. As a friend (and partner) she is extremely loyal and caring. You will seldom find anyone so readily prepared to love, to the point where it might even be overwhelming!

In terms of tennis, she is rather good at returns and backboard practice, but lacks strength. It seems she has good far-sighted spacial awareness, but is clumsy and sometimes ends up tripping over her own feet. At first her stamina and strength was quite low, so she asked Inui to create a training menu so that she could get better, and she continues to work hard on it. Even when her energy is running low, however, she is driven forward by the force of her determination.

Relationships

Kaoru Kaido

At first Tama was rather scared of Kaido at first (he has such an intimidating aura, after all) but she quickly found that he had a polite and kind side to him. And while Kaido looked down on her for being just a “Go-Home Club” member, he himself found a soft spot growing for her that he was unable to stop. The two bonded especially over their lunchtimes together, with Kaido’s beautiful lunches and Tama’s happily gluttonous appetite. They grew closer together as festival work continued on, until the end of the festival where Kaido confessed and the two have been dating ever since.

Kaido doesn't always talk that much in their conversations, but Tama is able to pick up the signs on how he's feeling or thinking based on his reactions. Tama enjoys teasing Kaido about his shyness and is more outwardly affectionate, which easily embarrasses Kaido, though secretly it makes him quite happy. Tama lets Kaido call her by her first name, but it isn't until high school before Kaido allows Tama to call him Kaoru. (He gets flustered right away the first time he hears it, of course.)

Kaido and Tama have similar aptitudes and attitudes towards life, with both of them valuing hard work and pushing your limits, which is perhaps why they're able to get along so well. However, since they're both stubborn, they sometimes end up arguing -- when it comes down to the important things though, they're often on the same page and if not, they are able to work things out together. Interestingly, while both of them fuss over neatness and cleanliness, Kaido excels more in physical organization, while Tama's specialty is in informational organization.

The daughter of an old family friend, Miaki and Tama would often meet in their childhood as their college-buddied fathers chatted away. As kids they often played outside, and you could see them playing on the swings in the playground or picking wildflowers in the fields. Tama was much more prone to tripping and falling than the more composed Miaki, and would often tend to Tama's wounds and console her crying.

When Miaki moved away, the two continued to keep in touch, updating each other about their daily lives, emotional troubles, and other little secrets. During the school festival, the two girls were reunited once again, and during the (albiet little) downtime that she had between festival committee work and helping out with Seigaku's booths, you could see the two hanging out together. Even during the worst of times, Miaki has the ability to make Tama laugh without fail, something she is extremely thankful for.

AyWBeXZ.png

Miaki's childhood friend, who Tama sometimes played with during her playdates with Miaki. As children, Tama was often blown away by Toshiko's charismatic energy, looking up to her lively yet seemingly unshakeable nature with awe. It's likely that much of Tama's cheerful exterior came from imitating Toshiko. When Miaki moved away however, Tama lost contact with her.

It isn't until middle school until the two crossed paths again, during one of Miaki's visits to the Kanto region. Tama was shocked to see Toshiko's stark change in her more reserved personality and the distance laid between the two. Later, in private, Miaki tells Tama about Toshiko's tennis elbow injury. Sympathetic for Toshiko's loss but uncertain as to how to make her feel better, she instead opts for simple kindness and patience. Over the course of the visits, Toshiko starts to open up more, and Tama is able to reach out to her once again.

Tama continues admire Toshiko her independence and compassion, and knowing that deep down, that person that she looked up to as a child still lives.

Miaki's childhood friend, who Tama sometimes played with during her playdates with Miaki. Like Toshiko, the two lost contact after Miaki's move to Osaka. When the two reunited, Reina easily greeted her as a friend as if no time has passed, helping Tama get over her initial nervousness meeting with the group after such a long time.

Both with a stubborn streak and a perchant to taking care of their friends, Tama and Reina frequently end up in "arguements of kindness". Whether it's choosing a movie to watch or splitting the bill, the two butt heads trying to put the other person first. Tama sometimes expresses worries about Reina's habit of overexerting herself, in which she replies, "You're the one to talk!" as they both grill each other for their lack of self-care habits (until Miaki has to step in to break the fight up). Despite (or perhaps as evidence of) how it may seem, the two are good friends.

Sakuno Ryuzaki

Sakuno was one of the first people to welcome Tama to the Girls' Tennis Club, who she then continued to bump into and bond with outside of club activities due to them both hanging around the regulars. When the two are together, the aura of warmth surrounding the two can permeate the entire room. Sakuno sometimes goes to Tama for advice regarding her crush on Ryoma, and while Tama can't quite understand the crush itself (she often gets frustrated at Ryoma for his ignorance towards Sakuno's feelings) she does her best to support her and cheer her on.

i2Ykmf9.png
Sadaharu Inui

During the school festival, Tama would sometimes participate in some of the tennis activities just out of curiousity. Watching her, Inui was intrigued to find that she seems to hold some natural tennis skill, and started to track her data as a result. When Tama went to Inui for help in improving her tennis, Inui already had a training regime ready for her to partake in. For Inui, Tama is a curious experiment in raising a tennis player from scratch, as well as a social cross-observation to see how a relationship can affect a subject (both in Kaido and Tama).

Tama highly admires Inui for his intelligence and will go to him for objective advice. While she doesn't enjoy the taste of Inui's Vegetable Juice in the same way Fuji does, she isn't as afraid of it -- instead, she accepts it as a motivator and punishment to push her forward.

Takashi Kawamura

Kawamura, Kaido, and Momoshiro worked together on the same booth during the school festival, and while Tama did try to be partial in helping every booth, the fact that she was inadvertently drawn towards Kaido meant Kawamura would be close by as well. The kind and gentle Kawamura was easy enough to befriend, and the shared struggle of breaking up Kaido and Momo's fights was something to bond over. What was surprising to, well, everybody, was how quickly she got used to Kawamura's Burning form. Somehow, she seems to be able to adjust well to those with intense personalities, doesn't she?

Takeshi Momoshiro

It's hard to not have some kind of interaction with your partner's rival, so it's no surprise that Momoshiro and Tama are well acquainted with each other. Momo was shocked at first to find that Kaido got a girlfriend, and was perhaps more than a little jealous to see the two enjoy each other's company (it's the kind of thing he's been wishing for, after all). Outside of that though, there aren't any hard feelings and they get along well, especially when it comes to talking about food.

Yasuyasu

Tama's pet hamster. She wanted a cat, but her parents didn't let her have one. His cuteness is contagious though, so he quickly won Tama over. His favorite things include burrowing into the ground, pressing himself against the plexiglass, and broccoli.

Tennis Stats

  • Body Type: Rectangular, slim
  • Dominant Arm: Left
  • Play Style: Serve & Volley (Speed Play)
  • Special Moves:
    • Bee Liner: A straight and fast return that unexpectedly pinpoints an opponent's blind spot. Tama is able to angle her racket quickly to achieve this.
    • Flight of the Bumblebee: A lob that starts slow but suddenly gains speed, throwing off the opponent's timing. When it lands, it "hops" close to the ground, making it difficult to return. With practice (and Inui's help), Tama learns to vary the speed of the lob, so that the opponents can't get used to the shot.

Item Bag

  • Planner: A tabbed agenda with a calendar and lots of space for notes. Tama keeps it on her at all times and uses it to keep track of homework and other tasks. Despite her diligence, she can get rather scatter-brained and so she uses it as an anchor to keep her thoughts in order.
  • Pencil case: A cute pencil case with a rabbit and moon design on it. Has various types of fancy mechanical pencils.
  • Novel: A mystery novel by a foreign author. Both she and her dad are fans of mystery novels, so she often is borrowing one from his bookshelf at home.
  • Bento: A modest bento box with a simple Japanese-style lunch that Tama made herself. Today's lunch consists of pickled-plum rice balls, rolled omelettes, and vegetables.
  • A bag of sunflower seeds: Tama often keeps a snack in her bag to eat during downtime or while reading. Because she often feeds sunflower seeds to Yasuyasu, she has a lot of them.
  • Tissues, losenges, advil, etc.: Things she always keeps on hand just in case she needs them. Many classmates are very grateful for this.
  • Kaido's bandana: A spare bandana that Kaido used to wrap Tama's injury when she tripped and sprained her ankle once. Kaido would be embarrassed if he knew she was carrying it around, so it's in a hidden pocket in her bag. It's a secret, so don't tell!

Notes

CO40UGv.pngNote from Kaoru Kaido

"Whenever she comes to visit during practice, the whole team teases me. Especially Kikumaru-senpai and Fuji-senpai. It's embarassing. ...Ah, b-but it's not that I hate having her around. Actually, to be honest, I... no, forget I said anything."

jD9B35Y.pngNote from Takashi Kawamura

"Kaido took her to the sushi shop the other day. Both me and my dad were surprised at how much she ate... She seemed to really enjoy it, though. Oh, but it's strange to see Kaido look so at ease. It's so different than how he usually is. But I guess I'm not one to talk... hahaha."

aaBJH7M.pngNote from Takeshi Momoshiro

"Damn that Viper! Getting a cute girlfriend like that all of a sudden... What does he have that I don't have, huh?! My charm and personality are leagues better than him! Aaaaaaargh, I'm really pissed off! I'm really pissed! Just you wait, I'm getting a girlfriend too!!!"

RW6vYzE.pngNote from Sadaharu Inui

"Certainly, their personalities are very compatible. It seems that they share similar enough characteristics to get along well but are different enough to help each other improve. Already Kaido's influence has led her to develop some promising abilities. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out."

35aCsKU.pngNote from Eiji Kikumaru

"The cookies she bakes are really yummy~ They're sooo good! Nya? But Kaido isn't a fan of sweets, is he? Aww, that's such a waste. Oh well, more for me!"

PYKLfxC.pngNote from Shusuke Fuji

"She's like a cute little sister for all of us third years. When she comes around, I just want to pat her head. Ah, that might make Kaido upset... but maybe I'll do it anyway, hehe. I'm truly glad for your happiness though, both of you."

pwQJxGi.pngNote from Shuichiro Oishi

"She's always lending a hand around the club, and does a good job of it. I'm very grateful for her help, but doesn't she have her own club she's in now? Eh? Is it that she enjoys being around us regulars more than the girls? Even still..."

8zXZuNz.pngNote from Kunimitsu Tezuka

"Kaido. It's good to have a partner to share the joys and burdens of life, but take caution to not let this affect your grades and tennis. Even in love, don't let your guard down."

mz8aZ4z.pngNote from Ryoma Echizen

"Huh, so there's someone out there who can like even Kaido-senpai, eh? Who knew. Good job, Senpai."

KhQId5a.pngNote from Sakuno Ryuzaki

"Senpai's also a beginner but she's already doing so well at tennis... And she's so kind, too. She always helps us first-years out even though she's a second-year. I'm glad you joined the club, Tama-senpai. Let's do our best together, okay?"
