Profile
Liliane
Fearful • Tired • Numb
"A midlife crisis at... wait, how old am I again?"
Before the world's end, a normal girl with a witch friend. After its end, a witch apprentice? Liliane always thought of herself as someone intelligent, and so did the people around her, but now... she can't learn a thing. Everything Meari knows instinctively seems so abstract and foreign to her that she questions her worth day by day and feels like she wasted the last, what, 200 years of her life? It might've been even more by now. If ignorance is a bliss, she might have preferred to wither with old age as a human than to feel as stupid as she does now as a witch apprentice. Liliane ended up in a pit of self doubt refusing to ask for help to the very girl she swore to never lie to: Meari.

Before the End
Liliane was an ordinary student, with ordinary family and neighbors, only her best friend (or were they girlfriends?) clashed with that perfectly ordinary life; Meari was a witch. Although Lili has forgotten a lot of what life was like back then, she still loves and cherishes the memories that haven't yet faded of the good moments, such as the train trip she and Meari took once and how much magic fascinated her on those years and still does to this day. She is slightly unsure of what kind of relationship she and Meari actually had; it had to be at least deep enough to go on trips together and make a life-extending contract sealed with a kiss... Not that it matters much nowadays, since it's been so long they've been with each other that definition of the beginning sounds meaningless! Or does it...?
Becoming an Apprentice
If Liliane was born without a single affinity for magic, she should have stayed that way until her death. But enter Meari, a slightly powerful witch raised by an ancient (and very powerful) witch, who's head over heels for Lili and you have a big change in the world's natural order: if a witch can live for however long she pleases, why not make someone you love a witch too?! Well, the downside is it can only be used once, but Meari never once thought twice, so she had nothing to lose! But giving magic to a magic-less person doesn't automatically make them a witch and that's what Liliane had to learn the hard way. What she was sure would be a piece of cake, as she never had problems studying, ended up being a huge snowball she couldn't keep up with.
The Present
Liliane maintains a strict schedule for herself but has seen little to no changes to her ability (or the lack thereof) in magic. Now to her mental and physical health, it has taken a significant toll; dark circles around her eyes and a fragility she had never experienced before are just the very tip of an iceberg. But even if it's clear as day she desperately needs some sort of guidance and help, Lili refuses to reach out or accept anybody's aid offers, so as to "not bother them". Ends up thinking of herself as a "failed experiment".
"I've been with her since much before the Last War and I trust her with my life. However, I can't help but feel I've disappointed her far too much with my lack of ability for magic... I've spent countless nights trying and trying to get better but... maybe I'm really doomed to only be a failed experiment forever."
"A newcomer... it's scary. Though I do feel a sense of kinship with her since neither of us were born with magic but at the same time, I feel ashamed for not being anywhere close to her level, even though I'm older... I hope to someday learn her techniques and become something more than a failed experiment."
