Originally just a particularly long-lived cat inhabiting a Japanese style temple in Neo-Asia, it was one day possessed by a powerful river demon and started wreaking havoc on the temple and surrounding areas. Eventually Lizon, who was vacationing in Neo-Asia at the time, caught wind of it and went to deal with the issue by erasing the demon’s grudge and giving the combined creature a new self and personality. And then he bought it back to Alcazar because of course he did, it wasn’t like it was the first demon he brought back or anywhere near the most dangerous. It was given the name Katoi, as in cat-koi, and enrolled into the military’s schools, eventually graduating and entering the mage division in honor of Lizon. Katoi’s power, sharp intellect and general attitude problem meant that he jumped the ranks fairly quickly, and he is currently serving in Alcazar's military with the rank of Brigadier.

POWERS

  • Water Manipulation - able to manipulate existing water or convert his mana into water, the water can have a variety of effects depending on his needs, eg. causing fatigue and weakness, poisoning, etc. Able to cause rainstorms, fogs, and other water based weather effects, also able to manipulate water that is currently within a person's body (unless they have high magic resistance or other shield effects)
    • Water Communication - able to project his image on any reflective surface (eg. water, mirrors, glass) to communicate with someone else, however he must know the general location of the other person and they must be near a reflective surface
    • Water Teleport - able to enter any body of fresh water and re-materialize anywhere else within that body of water. Cannot go through filtration systems or sufficiently small pipes
    • Spirit River - able to exert control over a creature’s physical, mental and emotional states, but needs to somehow get them to ingest the water from his lantern first. The water can be evaporated and the other person made to breathe it in, however this is sub-optimal as his level of control depends on the amount of water they have ingested. Usable to control, heal, rejuvenate, strengthen, induce hallucinations, cause internal injuries, etc. The water also has uses of more spiritual basis, such as allowing him to see a person’s desires and fears, sense the 'flow' of their energy, control their inner state, as well as enter their dreams while they are sleeping. If he is no longer manipulating the water, it will slowly lose its special effects and become completely inert after 24 hours. Its mana recovery properties will stop working after a certain point, which differs from person to person. Unable to regrow lost body parts
      • Recovery - able to drink it to near-instantly heal any damage and status effects on himself
  • Shadow Monster - has a monster living in his shadow that he is able to control and order around, however occasionally it seems to have a mind of its own and may disobey him. The monster is extremely strong, heavy and sturdy, and if destroyed will simply reappear in his shadow some time later. He normally uses it as brute strength or meat shield
  • Form Shift - into a cat
  • Spell Weave - general purpose magic for everyday use, eg. teleport, repair spells, binding spells, barrier spells, search spells, levitation, hammerspace, etc

 

EQUIPMENT

  • Water Lantern - A special lantern that is a manifestation of his spiritual powers, it is basically a link between the spirit river and the material world and can therefore produce a seemingly endless amount of water. It tastes like high quality spring water

 

WEAKNESSES

  • Massive range & great recovery/manipulation capabilities, but otherwise not the best in a direct fight
  • Forcibly freezing his water will render him no longer able to control it, while evaporating the water greatly reduces its effectiveness
  • If his lantern is destroyed, he has to meditate for eight hours to create another one
  • The effects of Spirit River cannot manipulate creatures that are not dependent on water as a life source, eg. golems, fire-based creatures, robots, etc
  • The materialized shadow must always have some part touching the ground or Katoi's body, otherwise it will immediately dissipate. Dissipating is not the same as destroying it, if only dissipated it can immediately re-materialize from his shadow

 

NOTES

  • The monster’s face is occasionally visible within his normal shadow and he is able to store items within the shadow’s world, as well as call upon the monster to assume physical form. It is still always connected to his shadow, however
  • Whenever his image is reflected, the reflection is always of the shadow monster unless it is currently materialized. If it is currently materialized, neither he nor the monster has any reflection
  • Too lazy to actually go out into battle, he usually ends up saddled with support jobs such as healing, directing troop movements, coming up with strategies and doing all the paperwork instead
