Yuu Nishimiya

ORIGINAL:

Yuu was adopted into a sophisticated family that managed to afford her education at the most popular magician training school in the town. Trained under a talented wizard, she quickly learned to work her magic and became one of the top yougest magician in her academy. She graduated at the age of 13.

Came with success was also despair. Yuu's parents expected more and more from her. When Yuu graduated and returned home, her foster parents trapped her in the library and sealed off the room with a powerful spell. The door would only open for servants to deliver food to Yuu. Her parents would use Yuu as a service port, with customers coming for magic spells, and her parents received all the money. On days when a customer complains about the quality of the spells, Yuu would be starved or beaten up. Through the span of two years, Yuu buries herself in magic books and spell, learning to escape.

On the night of Yuu's 14th birthday, Yuu managed to catch a fragment of a shooting star that flew past the tiny creak of her window. Unexpectedly, the fragment grew into a man named Astre Sirius, who claimed to have been watching over Yuu from the cosmic dimension. He introduced himself as the living incarnation of a shooting star, and upon seeing Yuu's miserable state, he offered her a way to escape. Since then, he appeared at midnight to teach Yuu new spells.

On Yuu's 15th birthday, with the materials and knowledge taught by Astre, she casted a powerful spell that brought destruction to everything in a 40 metres range around her. The mansion collapsed, killing her foster parents and servants. Yuu left the mansion, but had nowhere to go. Astre once again appeared, and agreed to take Yuu in as his apprentice. Since then, Yuu lived in Astre's cottage in a small town to practice magic.

With the news of the collapsed mansion with the death of Yuu's parents and the disappearance of Yuu herself, people began speculating that Yuu was the cause. As Yuu's foster parents were the King's consultants, the King put Yuu on a bounty list. Thanks to Astre's magic, their location has not been found.

PHANTASMAGORIA ARC:

Yuu and Magnolia were chased by the King's guards. Magnolia (was possessed by Cassian) and Yuu opened a portal with magic for an emergency escape. It went wrong. The portal remained open, they entered and didn't come out. Astre and Cendre jumped in the portal to find them, and Incendius casually walked in out of curiosity.

Phantasmagoria is a nightmare-like, fairytale based world that fucks with anyone who enters it. People who enter will be transformed into Soul Reapers - an alternate form of themselves, as a character in different fairytales. Its where backstories no longer matter because they are re-written. They get to keep their memories of the people closest to them, but forget things about themselves. The only way to escape Phantasmagoria is to find “Original-self”.

To find “Original-Self”, anyone who wants to escape has to slaughter other people in Phantasmagoria. Killing the right people will give the killer a Soul drop, which can be exchanged for a piece of memory of their “Original-Self”. This makes the killing process very random, since killing the wrong people with reward the killer nothing (but guilt). The key to finding the targets to kill is to identify your fairytale story, then to kill the people that play the role of your enemies in that fairytale. If killed, your body would be found in the real world.

Yuu, upon entering Phantasmagoria, was given the name Malice Alice. Her fairytale story is based on Alice in Wonderland, meaning she has to target enemies in the same story in order to gain Soul drops, such as the people who assumed the identity of Queen of Hearts, Card knights, Cheshire cat, Jabberwocky, etc,.

Upon entering, she was given a scythe and dropped in a night market area. The area was civilized and created by people who wanted to stay back in Phantasmagoria, so chaos and killings rarely happened here. Not knowing what to do, Yuu stayed and helped run an Oden stand with a family there, and for the first time, she felt the joy of having a family with loving parents. .
