Kailani shouldn't exist, and technically she knows it. After all, humans are always drawn to what once was, dinosaurs included. Despite multiple warnings not to make one themselves, a niche group of researchers gave it a shot. Most groups like this could only make a shell for the egg. Some ended up with something inside, incomplete, but it existed. This one? They made Kailani. They'd managed to successfully make an ancestor of aviation with modern avian DNA. Early on, she was taken care of by some caretakers as they monitored her activity. Yes, she was carnivorous, but she seemed more than fine just eating whatever was tossed her way. One handler regretted going with their kids on Halloween when she accidentally brought some of that candy into Kailani's habitat. The little dino would complain unless they added a sweet to her meals, and most researchers preferred keeping their arms intact. She even stole some cocoa from one of their mugs. Years of observation passed, where they found out she was quite musical. Perhaps it was the macaw that was mixed into her genes. Perhaps it was one of the other birds. Either way, she hardly ever stopped singing, sans of course for her meals. They could always find her in her enclosure because of it. She often got herself stuck from being overly curious as well. Life was peaceful. Then, it happened. One caretaker left the enclosure open. The outdoor portion of her little home was open to the world. So she took it, and darted off into the wilds that had just become an expansion of her home. She never found her way back.

Kailani is a curious little Pygmy Dromaeosaurus, and is probably quite naive about this world she finds herself living in. She still holds out hope for finding another Pygmy Dromaeosaurus like herself, but in all her years she's never found one. She has found other creatures, however. Ones she'd love to befriend! Even if she has to eat a steak or two when people leave them out. She's often spotted outside of urban areas, stealing sweets and drinks from the locals. Most know a curious little bird exists near them, and those who want to catch a glimpse of her often leave things out for her to try. No clear as day pictures of her yet, but she's become a sort of local legend. To the creatures there, it depends on how much she's fed by people. If she gets a good haul, she's their best friend. If it's sparse... well, some of them just feel lucky they're about as big as her. Most are afraid she'll eat them. She never will, though. She was weaned off of it in her early years. When she's not eating a stolen treat or resting in a tree, Kailani can be found trying to either make friends or singing her heart out. Most of her songs tend to be wordless little tunes, but she's found amusement in mimicking human speech around people. Her curiosity also tends to land her in trouble, as he exploratory mind doesn't seem to stop asking questions about the places she visits. She's learned to rely mostly on people for food, as doing so tends to make it easier to befriend the local wildlife, preventing riots that force her to move. Currently, she has yet to be driven out by a frightened wild mob of critters, and has a great rapport going on with the town she's skirting.

Kailani often tries to keep her own spirits up, but often misses having a family like when she was younger. When she makes new friends, she considers them to be her family. She'll sing and chatter around strangers, but those who become close to her hear the true feelings of the little dino, from her love of sweets, her desire to make them herself somehow, and how she doesn't hunt other animals since they can be friends (and personally when she did eat meat, it never moved, so that's out for her). She's fine sticking with her diet of human food. There aren't a lot of animals who want to try befriending a carnivore, especially such an odd one like her, but those who do often see her as a little songbird, a little ray of sunshine even. She hopes she really is. After all, her days in the research center with raw meals seem to be over. Surely she can turn a new leaf and make more friends! Right?
