Summary

Winry is the third child and only daughter of Orion and Qi. Since a child, Winry has always been fascinated with stories. Listening to them on her father’s knee (and silencing anyone who dared interrupt), reading books to her grandfather, or telling her own to any who would listen. It came to no surprise then when she started writing her own stories to share with the world. Though she still is mostly small and must work at a nearby bookshop to help.

Personality

As a child, Winry would often parallel play with her siblings more so than interactively, or spend a great deal of time curled up into her father’s side as he read to her. This carried over into adulthood where Winry still greatly enjoys the company of those she loves but highly prefers doing her own thing, such as putting together a rube goldberg like machine or writing her own stories for a change. She is a quiet soft-spoken woman that, combined with her short stature, often gives others the impression she is shy and impressionable. However, anyone who knows Winry knows not to take advantage of her kind and meek nature. Her temper is as quick as a whip and extremely fierce, even her larger and older siblings have a healthy fear of her. Winry is not a bully though. Her temper is sharp but never without cause. Usually her anger is forced when she feels she must protect her loved ones or when she feels they have been slighted in some way. She is generally very mindful of others, being amiable and helpful, but where her family is concerned she is especially devoted.
Likes: mystery novels, lattes, hunting, cute dresses
Disikes: dystopian novels, rain, clubbing, gingerbread

History

Winry grew up in the forest where her parents met with her 4 other siblings. She was a determined child from the start, acting much older than her actual age. Such as disciplining her older siblings when they became too loud or rambunctious (Kunal), or helping with chores around the house like cleaning and hunting. She highly preferred the latter, trailing along behind her father for wild game which was fine with her second oldest sibling, Mintaka, who didn’t have the stomach for it. Her favorite activity though was reading. She would force everyone in the family to read to her at all times of the day, absorbed in tales of mystery, tragic heroes, and forbidden romance.
This passion of hers never wavered and when she came of age Winry all too excitedly volunteered to work at a bookshop in the nearby town where her father taught. Eventually she would be hired by said bookshop where she continues to work. She’s a little shy to admit it but Winry has been writing some of her own books on the side — mysteries, just like the ones she liked to read. However, she keeps them hidden in her room, not yet ready to share them with anyone knowingly (she has read her books to her grandfather and her future partner,  Somnia. But only under the guise that they’re published books by other authors, embarrassed of admitting they’re her own works).
While on her way to work one day, she saw a traveling merchant was selling dreams. This caught her attention instantly as she never knew such a thing was possible! She was charmed by the other and would visit them as often as she could – much to the surprise and mild-reluctance of the dream seller. Things started to take a turn after Winry had been threatened by a group of strangers in the forest on her way to meet her new friend. The latter revealed their true form – that of a fallen angel named Somnia – to protect Winry from her assailants. The adrenaline of the situation and the horrifying visage before her caused her quite a scare, but Winry quickly figured out that the individual who protected her was her closest friend. Ecstatically she threw herself into their arms. The cherub was surprised that after revealing who they were and what that entailed, Winry determinedly remained beside them.
The two now spend a majority of their time together. Winry practically moving in with Somnia (much to the dismay of her father) to live a simple life of blissful domesticity with them. She continues to work at the bookstore and share her stories with Somnia, while the latter continues carrying on with their own duties. However, the two remain vigilant for the prying eyes of the mercenaries who were tasked with capturing/killing Somnia.

Powers and Abilities

Innate Luck: Being part luck spirit, Winry is slightly luckier than other people. Her power is not as strong as her mother’s nor Kunal’s, meaning that bad things may still happen. However, on average good things happen to her more often and bad less. Random chance tilts slightly to her favor compared to the average person.
Luck Bestowal: While she is not able to control the luck within her those who are in her presence will probably also notice good fortune following them.
Alpha Strength: Winry is an alpha leike. While she doesn’t look like it she is incredibly strong and has been noted picking up ~501kg.
Leike Marking: Also as leike Winry possesses the magical ability to mark others who may or may not be leikes themself. This mark strengthens a bond between partners but is not necessary nor permanent. It can be broken by either individual in the relationship at any time.

Relationships

Winry’s family is rather extensive and continuously growing. If you’re interested in knowing more about her genealogy you can go here! Otherwise the following containes only select members of the family she is closest to and other important relationships in her life.

Orion

Winry’s father. While she loves both of her parents greatly, she has always been much closer to her father. His calm, and frankly exhausted, nature always soothed her more than the offbeat eccentricities of her other parent. Much like Orion himself, Winry inherited his protective instincts to the point that as a child she would even scare her older siblings if they got too rowdy with dad. She also greatly enjoyed hunting trips with him as she was the only one of her siblings quiet enough and brave enough to do so. As an adult she still continues to find great comfort in his presence, always seeking him out for much needed advice or just peaceful company. However, despite how close she was and continues to be with him, Winry has always had a determined independent streak that greatly saddens her father. Which only gets worse as she meets Somnia and is away more. While she may complain about his reluctance to let her go she firmly remains a daddy’s girl.

Bartholomew

Winry’s grandfather on her mother’s side and her number one fan. He’s a bit of a recluse but that never stopped Winry from walking up a mountain at least three times a week to see him. Always bringing her favorite books and snacks for them to enjoy. Bartholomew always looks forward to her quiet and laid-back visits. Recently, Winry has been reading him some of her own works of literature but unfortunately she’s a bit too shy to admit it. Their interest in the series is praise enough for her though!

Qi

Winry’s mother. Winry absolutely adores her parent, though would sometimes be overwhelmed by their unconventional parenting and quirky nature as a child. However, Qi was endlessly encouraging and was the one who fostered an independence in Winry, while still remaining very doting. If father told Winry no then Winry quickly went to mother who would always say “of course, I’ll help you.” She also greatly enjoyed the whimsical tales Qi would tell her which helped spark her own imagination.

As an adult Winry continues to use her parent against her father, such as when she brought her own partner home to meet the family. She complained to Qi who then intervened to soothe their husband’s threats against Somnia.

Kunal

Winry’s oldest brother. Despite how polar opposite the two are they get along famously. While loud and unruly, he has always respected his sister’s space and been doting towards her. In return Winry has always been very protective of her brother, chewing out anyone who made fun of him or gave him funny looks. The only time there is ever conflict between the two is when Kunal harasses Orion or Somnia, causing Winry to have to put him in his place. Usually a mean look or tears is all it ever takes for Kunal to immediately stop what he is doing. Winry’s authority being second only to their mother.

Mintaka

Winry’s second oldest sibling. Both are the most reserved of their siblings, creating an unspoken alliance between them as no one better understood the frustrations quite like themselves. Sharing same hat syndrome. Winry is more bold though, and tries to encourage the same out of their gentle older sibling. It always fails but thankfully Winry is bold enough for the both of them. The largest conflict the two ever shared was competing for the attention of their father as they were growing up. Minataka’s more subdued nature often won the fight, which typically left Winry feeling a bit jealous. Causing the younger sibling to scurry off to their mother and insist that it was her turn to spend time with papa.

 Somnia

Winry’s partner. She met Somnia as the traveling merchant was selling dreams. However, her attention quickly shifted from what they were selling to the seller themself. She was charmed by the playful and mysterious merchant, coming back numerous times throughout the week to see them under the pretense of buying “the perfect dream” when she found it. In actuality, what she truly wanted was to keep visiting Somnia.

It was a strenuous relationship at first. The other was very guarded at the start, but despite how much distance they tried to put between them, the two became very close. To the point that Winry became one of the only people to have the pleasure to know Somnia’s true personality. Endearing her to them even more as she finally began to know what she called her “true friend”. As the two spent more time together it was inevitable that their feelings would also grow. Shortly after Winry was saved by Somnia, the cherub confessed their feelings to her which she all too happily returned. She now continues to stay by Somnia’s side, practically glued to them as both share the parts of themself that they were too scared or shy to before.

Hlyla

Winry’s adoptive daughter????? friend. Winry was at first extremely jealous of Hlyla when she first met her. Hlyla showed up out of the blue with tears in her eyes, calling Somnia by their real name as she threw herself into their arms. Winry had worked very hard to get to know Somnia and then they were just hugging this other woman that, for all intents and purposes, they just met! Somnia explained that Hlyla was their mentee back when they were a dream cherub. It became clear rather quickly to Winry that the relationship the two had was that of parent and child. Calming her jealousy instantly.

She remained hesitant of the other at first however, nervous that if Hlyla could find Somnia then what was stopping other angel’s from doing the same thing. Her fear was quickly assuaged as Hlyla becomes an invaluable friend in keeping the mercenaries off of Somnia’s trail. The two are now inseparable. Hlyla becoming like a sister that Winry never had. (Which sometimes spells trouble for their respective partners, Somnia and Hier).

Trivia

• Most people think of Winry as being a “cute submissive woman” but then quickly find her unappealing when she reveals her enormous strength. This makes her a bit shy to reveal how much she can truly lift.
• Somnia was the only one who didn’t turn away from her when she showed her true strength. This was definitely when she started to develop feelings for them.
• Winry’s love for inventing rube goldberg machines came from her father’s siblings, Pom and Orphy.
