Isamu Takahashi is a third year at Mishamari Lower Secondary School who is absolutely obsessed with anime, and loves talking about it with anyone who he meets. This obsession prevents him from making too many friends, with most of his classmates thinking he's either weird or annoying. As far as his classmates go, he's one of the most normal ones. Isamu doesn't have any murderous or sociopathetic tendencies, and he had a fairly nice childhood. He is an extremely active member of his middle school's anime club.
Isamu was born to a dedicated and kind mother, Minori Takahashi, and an absent father who left Minori when she was pregnant with him. Isamu grew up with his doting mother and an older brother, Ryota Takahashi. He was actively encouraged to follow his creative pursuits, express who he is, and to talk about his interests. The Takahashi family was never exactly well off, so Isamu didn't get a lot of toys and such growing up, so he never really got spoiled rotten, though his mother did wish she could spoil him as much as she could. When Isamu was 13, his older brother suddenly disappeared, rocking his mental state and throwing him into a bit of a depression for a while. Nevertheless, Isamu grew up happily in his home.
Isamu has identified as a boy since he was a young child, and has socially transitioned with the help of his mother. He happily lives his life, focusing on manga, anime, drawing, video games, and taking care of his pet ferret, Ootachi. He's never had an easy time making friends in school, however, and he does his best to befriend his fellow 9th grader, Sakura Nakajima. He's perceived as annoying by most of his classmates, but he tries to ignore that stance. Isamu just sees himself as a silly, goofy guy, and wants to live his best life and not get bullied by the older kids at Mishamari.
- He's rarely seen without a smile, which has braces.

- He has an OC called Umasi, who is a dimension-hopping ninja, that he draws comics about.
- He has an extensive collection of patterned binders. His most notable ones are a Miku binder, and Hunter x Hunter binder, and a cherry blossom binder.
- He has different colored headbands for different outfits, but the green one is his favorite.
- Isamu has ADHD and stims with the rubber bands on his braces and flapping his hands.
- Isamu works part time in his mother's cafe, and loves to help her make cookies.
- He has a pet ferret named Ootachi, who has a green bow around her neck.
